VFW 4051 Memorial Day Weekend Poppy Drive

Buddy Poppies for Memorial Day Weekend 2021

The VFW 4051 Poppy Distribution is held to raise funds for the VFW Veteran Relief Fund and will take place on May 29th and 30th from 9:00 - 3:00pm at the Big R Store located on 5845 Constitution Avenue. The Post, the Auxiliary, and the Rotary Club will participate. 

There will be a kickoff free breakfast at the IHOP located at 6005 Constitution Avenue at 8:00 AM on Saturday 29 May.  Poppies will be distributed from a table inside the front door at Big R from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  Plan to attend the breakfast and help distribute Buddy Poppies.  Wear your Rotary shirt if you have one, the VFW will provide aprons to wear. 

Memorial Day grew out of the post-Civil War traditions remembering those passed from both the North and the South by placing flowers, then flags on the graves of their beloved fallen. The U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs recognizes that approximately 25 places claim to have originiated the holiday. The name "Memorial Day", which was first attested in 1882, gradually became more common than "Decoration Day" after World War 2 but was not declared the official name by federal law until 1967. Today the Poppy reminds us of the honorable and heroic service performed by generations of service men and women in peace and in war. Donations given fund Post 4051's Veterans' Relief Fund. The Veterans' Relief Fund supports local efforts to assist veterans and the organizations that support them.

This is the 4th year the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs has volunteered with Post 4051 during their Poppy drive that takes place each Memorial and Veterans' Day weekend.
