KATHLEEN EARNS HER BLUE BADGE
Kathleen Rogers was inducted as a new member on January 25, 2017. As a new member, Kathleen received a red badge and was required to complete a new member assignment sheet to earn her permanent blue badge. Tasks included are specifically designed to expose new members to many aspects of Rotary and to familiarize them with as many club members as possible. Kathleen was quick to get involved by participating on the strategic planning sub-committee, volunteering at our dental clinic, bringing guests to our meetings, and attending the District Assembly.
Thank you and congratulations on earning your permanent blue badge, Kathleen!

Undoubtedly the most important step to promote voluntary giving to The Rotary Foundation occurred in 1957, when the idea of Paul Harris Fellow recognition was first proposed. Although the concept of making US$1,000 gifts to the Foundation was slow in developing, by the early 1970s it began to gain popularity. The distinctive Paul Harris Fellow medallion, lapel pin and attractive certificate have become highly respected symbols of a substantial financial commitment to The Rotary Foundation by Rotarians and friends around the world.
A special recognition pin is given to Paul Harris Fellows who make gifts of US$1,000 to the Foundation. The distinctive gold pin includes a blue stone to represent each US$1,000 contribution up to a total of US$5,000 in additional gifts. Red stone pins signify gifts of US$7,000 to US$9,000. A Diamond Circle pin is given to donors for major gifts in excess of US$10,000.
Paul Harris Fellow recognition provides a very important incentive for the continuing support needed to underwrite the many programs of The Rotary Foundation that build goodwill and understanding in the world.
This is one of a series of short articles about Rotary written by Cliff Dochterman, PRIP, and originally published in the Rotary publication, The ABCs of Rotary.

ROTARY PIN CHALLENGE - Week 45
The blue in this flower pin reminded me of Judith's eyes, so I bought two pins, one for each of us. I found this beauty in Seoul at the Rotary International Convention House of Friendship. So apropos since Rotary is how our friendship began 18 years ago.
I have challenged myself to wear my Rotary pin EVERY day. By doing this I hope to raise awareness of Rotary and Rotary's work. I invite all Sunrise Rotarians to join me in wearing a Rotary pin EVERY day.
