CONNARD'S PCT HIKE TO BENEFIT THE CLUB FOUNDATION
The call of the wild dictates the beginning of Connard’s (AKA Prim8, trail name) attempt to hike a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail, which in total runs some 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada as it meanders through California, Oregon and Washington mountain ranges.
Many individuals “through-hike” the entire trail in one long hike, taking perhaps five months. Prim8? Not so much at once. The first ~175 miles from the Mexican border to Idyllwild, CA, starting May 1 and completing within fourteen days, hopefully sooner, will serve to determine his ability to continue onward later.
Connard offers his endeavor as an opportunity for the RC of SB Sunrise to raise charitable funds for its club foundation. Connard has pledged to match funds raised by the club up to $1 per mile hiked. As Sandra O’Meara has volunteered to represent the club in this fundraising effort, please see her regarding your tax-deductible contributions to this effort, which will also encourage Prim8 as he sweats his way along the PCT.

Interact, a Rotary-sponsored youth service club, was launched by the RI Board of Directors in 1962. The first Interact club was established by the Rotary Club of Melbourne, Florida, U.S.A. Interact clubs provide opportunities for boys and girls of secondary school age to work together in a world fellowship of service and international understanding. The term "Interact" is derived from "inter," for international, and "act," for action. Every Interact club must be sponsored and supervised by a Rotary club and must plan annual projects of service to its school, community and in the world.
Interactors develop skills in leadership and attain practical experience in conducting service projects, thereby learning the satisfaction that comes from serving others. A major goal of Interact is to provide opportunities for young people to create greater understanding and goodwill with youth throughout the world.
This is one of a series of short articles about Rotary written by Cliff Dochterman, PRIP, and originally published in the Rotary publication, The ABCs of Rotary.

ROTARY PIN CHALLENGE - Week 44
May is Youth Service month so I thought I'd feature Interact as our "Did You Know" and also select it as my pin of the week. I was a member of the Interact Club of Righetti High School. I also served as the District Interact secretary.
I have challenged myself to wear my Rotary pin EVERY day. By doing this I hope to raise awareness of Rotary and Rotary's work. I invite all Sunrise Rotarians to join me in wearing a Rotary pin EVERY day.
