We wish our members, their families and our friends and supporters a wonderful Christmas Holiday. Thank you to all of you for making our Club an important part of this community. If you are traveling for the holidays we wish you safe journeys and look forward to hearing all about your adventures when you return.
This week and next week there will be informal gatherings of Rotarians at the IHOP at Frontier Heights. We will return to our usual meeting location on January 9th with a program that includes Mrs. Washington America Ryanna Cook.
As we have mentioned, our Scholarship Portal is now open to accept applications from 2026 Lake Stevens High School graduating seniors. If you know of a senior who plans to pursue education after high school at a college, university of technical/vocational institution, please invite them to submit an application. The link to our YouTube Channel is now available on our website and our weekly bulletins. You can view recent online meetings. If you watch any of them, you can count it as a makeup. Just let our Co-Secretary, Christine Egelstad know.
On Friday, December 19th, our Club donated funds for the second time this year. Receiving funds were: Lake Stevens Senior Center, $2,000 represented by Jerry Stumbaugh, President; Anthony Hawley, for the Lake Stevens Community Food Bank/Hungry Hearts; Elizabeth Miller for the Lake Stevens Resources Center and John Spencer, Reshal Ploeger and Jim Haugen, board members for the Lake Stevens Arts & Parks.
Funds for the Lake Stevens Senior Center will be used for the December 25th Christmas Dinner and Balancing Program; Funds for the Lake Stevens Community Food Bank/Hungry Hearts will be used for their Backpack program; the Lake Stevens Resource Center funds will provide cold weather clothing for their participants; Sherwood Community Services for sensory bags; and the Lake Stevens Arts & Parks funding will go for a woodland path walkway at the new Sno-Isle Library; and unavailable on Friday was the Friends of the Library which will go for the library's children's program.
Our guest speaker on Friday, December 19th was Keenan Solomon, Program Director, Hero House, Everett. The program started in the 1940's. The program empowers individuals to have a sense of purpose, employment and housing. The program is more of a holistic approach for their members. Members are referred to as club members. A work order day involves members working side by side making lunch, working on grants and advocating for the Hero House. The center is located close to the Everett Community College which is helpful for their members who want to return to school. Membership is life-long without any restrictions and everything is voluntary.
There are four Club Houses in the State of Washington. There are employment specialists on site to help members with their employment opportunities. There are club house events every Thursday night such as movie night, going to a restaurant and so much more. Hero House-Everett started in 2019. Looking for Rotary members to join their Advisory Board.
Interact is a service club for youth ages 14-18. The name is a combination of the words international and action. We join Clubs in over 120 countries around the world. The global youth network is dedicated to community and international service. Every Interact Club project, great or small, has a lasting impact on society worldwide.

December 26th and January 2nd there will be informal gatherings at the IHOP at Frontier Heights.Our regular Rotary Club Meetings are at the Lake Stevens School District Educational Service Center lower level Community Room located at 12309 22nd St NE. We start at 7:30 am. Click here for the online link. There will not be any breakfast served. However, coffee will be available. Visitors are always welcome.
