The week has finally arrived! This is the meeting that we get to present scholarships to deserving young men and women to further their education at universities, colleges and trade schools near and far. Join us as we celebrate the future leaders of our community. This week's meeting is at Creator Zone, 9015 Vernon Rd. Thank you to Creator Zone for hosting this special meeting. We need a few folks to help set up on Thursday afternoon. Members - an email was sent to you already. Please reply to that if you can help.

Thank you to the members who helped with the torch down of decals at Skyline Elementary School last Saturday. The Staff and Students are so excited about this. We have even received inquires from other schools. Stay tuned!

Members - additionally, you were sent an email from President-Elect Don seeking your input on upcoming events. This is your Club. Your feedback is important.

The link to our YouTube Channel is now available on our website and our weekly bulletins. You can view recent online meetings. If you watch any of them, you can count it as a makeup. Just let our Secretary, Gary O'Rielly know.

IPA in Copan Update - Marty Pease

Marty Pease returned for her annual update on the IPA in Copan, Honduras. IPA-Copan is a partnership between the Rotary Club of Copan Ruinas, Honduras and the International Project Alliance (IPA), IPA is a collaborative group of Rotary Clubs in Skagit and nearby counties in Washington State. Peter Martin, Fidalgo Island is the founder and president of IPA.

Marty posed a series of questions about IPA and its various activities. Contracts with local in country managers, Cinthia and Mauricio have been renewed for the next three years. IPA would not exist or be successful without the support of these two managers.

There are four main goals of IPA: 1) Adopt a School - currently supporting 72 schools in more than 35 villages. 2).Adopt a Dream - finding sponsors for middle and high school students as well as university students. 3) Three-year commitment sought for goals one and two. 4) Rapid Development. The goal is to bring these villages out of property within three years. The latter goal is difficult to accomplish. Yet, no one has defaulted on their loans.

Home gardens have been hugely successful with micro businesses being developed by many of the villagers. Eleven villages are participating in this program. Thanks, Marty, for the update.

Skyline Elementary School-Torch Down Project

Just some photographs of Rotarians applying Skyline Elementary selected artwork decals by torch down to the asphalt behind the building where young students walk between their portable classrooms and the main building. Ten members of our Club helped with the project on Saturday, May 20th. There's more photographs at our Facebook site.

Lake Stevens Food Bank - Rotary Teaching Kitchen

Club President Chris Vallo presents a District Grant check to Anthony Hawley, Director of the Lake Stevens Food Bank in the amount of $16,104.12. The District Grant is for the Rotary Teaching Kitchen which will be a major part of the new Lake Stevens Food Bank building set to open in mid-June. The grant funds were used to purchase equipment and essentials for the Rotary Teaching Kitchen. This is the first installment with another larger check to come prior to the opening of the Lake Stevens Food Bank in mid-June.
