Because our usual meeting location will be closed for the holidays, there will be optional attendance gatherings at The Buzz Inn each of the next two Friday's. We will still have our usual commraderie and fun.

Our guest speaker on Friday, December 15th was Kari Hovde from the Backstage Foundation. Kari is a realtor in the Puyallup area who started Backstage Foundation in order to be a role model for kids. The goal in establishing Backstage Foundation was to provide dance education experiences to our youth who may not otherwise have the opportunity due to financial hardships. Backstage Foundation was started in 2021 with the goal of raising $25,000 but ended up raising over $140,000. Her work has expanded to working with high school dance coaches working professionally with these groups to help students learn their talent. She has expanded the Foundations reach to Southern California and Las Vegas, NV.
Our guest speaker on Friday, December 8th was Tina Mandella, Lake Stevens Community Resource Center providing our Club with her annual update. The LSCRC is a one-stop hub of services for people in need. From help with the basic needs like food, clothing and shelter, to assistance with other kinds of resources and programs, the make sure that our neighbors are supported and cared for in their journeys toward stability.
The LSCRC recently moved to the new Lake Stevens Community Food Bank. The hours of service are Monday-Thursday from 9 am-12 pm and 1 pm-4 pm Prior to the move, Tina and her assistant were the only employees. The move has changed the dynamics with the addition of 4 more staff members to help provide the services needed for our community. In 2021 LSCRC served 3,055 individuals and 1,216 families. In 2022, LSCARC served 2,155 individuals and 801 families.
Some of the services are: Affordable housing search; housing applications; rent and utility assistance (dependent on funding); job search, resume, and cover letter; connection to mental health services; government benefit applications; treatment recovery services; diapers/wipes; household essentials; cold weather supplies; birthday programs; holiday help and hot meals.
During our Corks & Kegs fundraiser on Saturday, November 11th, our Fund A Cause was Bridge Receiving. Our Fund A Cause effort raised $20,100 for Bridge Receiving. Accepting the check from Club President Don Iverson is Tracy Rubstello, Director of Development-Bridge Receiving. Besides the Fund A Cause, two members through their organizations were able to obtain two 20 ft. shipping containers from the Port of Everett and Rubatino Refuses Removal for storage and exercise gym.
Our Rotary Club participated in the Lights of Lake Stevens Sleigh Stop on Saturday evening, December 16th from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Mill in downtown Lake Stevens. The other two Sleigh Stops were the Lake Stevens Community Food Bank and Lundeen Park. JoinING in the fun was Fred the Dragon and our giant snowman.
Rotarians active for this event were Club President Don Iverson, Past President Chris Vallo, Club Treasurer Jak Thornton, Club Secretary Gary O'Rielly and Laurie Westover. Brian Rewis was in charge of set up for the evening event.
Members- invoices were sent to you for the semi-annual dues and voluntary contribution to The Rotary Fund (EREY). You can also be proactive before the invoices are sent. Cash, check, Venmo are all acceptable ways to make that payment. If you have yet to make your dues payment please contact the Treasurer to let him know when you will take care of this. Check your email for the invoice and be part of the Paid group. Thank you for supporting your Club.
Interact is a service club for youth ages 14-18. The name is a combination of the words international and action. We join Clubs in over 120 countries around the world. The global youth network is dedicated to community and international service. Every Interact Club project, great or small, has a lasting impact on society worldwide.

Dec 22nd & Dec 29th Meetings are at The Buzz Inn. Our regular Rotary Club Meetings are at the Lake Stevens School District Educational Service Center lower level Community Room located at 12309 22nd St NE. We start at 7:30 am. Click here for the online link. There will not be any breakfast served. However, coffee will be available. Visitors are always welcome.
