FUN Community Service Projects

Shipwreck Fest is one of the largest Flea Market Festivals in Washington State! With over 200 vendors, this event started over thirty-six years ago when commercial fisherman sold their used gear as yard art on Commercial Ave. Since then, Shipwreck has grown into a massive flea market festival from garage sale vendors to local artists, to repurposed and antique vendors.  This is one of our biggest fundraisers that helps local community and international projects.  If you're interested in volunteering and getting involved with your Anacortes community, contact us at FIR.theFUNClub@gmail.com.  To be a vendor go to: shipwreckfest.com

The Anacortes Waterfront Festival is one of the most beloved festivals in Skagit Valley. It is a festival geared around Anacortes boating heritage of being a marine town and water activities.  It is one of the best small-town, kid-friendly, community focused festivals left in Washington State. Every year our club sponsors the FREE Kids Boat Building activity made part by donated wood by Sierra Pacific Industries, the Anacortes High School's wood shop facility and over 800 volunteer hours from our membership and local community volunteers. This year, we cut over 2500 boats and raised over $1600 towards local community projects.  We are currently seeking a wood shop to cut next year's festival boats while the high school is under construction.  If you would like to help us plan, cut or volunteer for next year's festival, contact us at FIR.theFunClub@gmail.com.  To see this years' pictures and slide show click here.

Every year Fidalgo Island Rotary members come together and do a Sail Cutting Work Party at Cimarron Trucking Inc. down 34th Street in Anacortes. With production of boats up over 56% from 2016, we have our work cut out for us.  Members bring Exacto knives, some bring cardboard and their good cheer as we roll out over 2500 feet of sail material and cut out sails with pre-cut templates. Pizza & beer is usually the dinner of choice and maybe some James Brown playing in the corner. Either way, by the end of the night, the sails are done, our bellies are full and someone laughed so hard they pee'd their pants, that's just how we roll.

When it comes to wine, the Fidalgo Island FUN Club is there to help in any way possible. The Anacortes Spring Wine Festival is one of the biggest and best wine festivals in the Pacific Northwest held at the Pier One Transit Shed in Anacortes and hosted by the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce. This year's event was sold out at 1100 tickets allowing for VIPs to enjoy the festival an hour ahead of time.  Many volunteers are needed to make this event a success and we stepped up!  From setup to vendor liaison to backroom wine inventory, the FUN Club will help out with whatever is needed.  It was so nice to see fellow Rotarians helping out the wine vendors and filling up their ice buckets or replenishing bread baskets, everywhere you turned there was a Fidalgo Island Rotary member laughing at how busy and crowded it was.  It's ALWAYS a good time when your a part of the FUN Club. Cheers!

Join us June 3rd & 4th, 2017 at the Anacortes Waterfront Festival where we provide FREE wooden boats for kids to build and customize with their parents and grandparents. Thanks to Sierra Pacific, this event has been helping families create special memories with their little ones for decades and seems to be growing year after year.  If you would like to volunteer and have FUN with us, sign up and contact us at FIR.theFunClub@gmail.com- we would love to have you join us!
