This year marks 30 years since Rotary launched PolioPlus, its campaign to rid the world of polio. Beginning on Rotary's anniversary, 23 February, Rotary members worldwide will be holding events to celebrate three decades of polio eradication progress.

The RI Board of Directors elected Bryn Styles to serve the remaining term of Rotary Foundation Trustee Monty Audenart, who passed away on 21 January.

Members of the Rotary Club of San Francisco Evening meet three times a month at a wine bar after work, share a social outing once a month, and promote all their activities on social media like Meetup and Facebook.
As the first evening club in the city, it has attracted many young professionals from Silicon Valley tech firms whose work schedules keep them from joining a more traditional club that meets for breakfast or lunch. February 23 marks an important date for us, the 110th anniversary of Rotary International. On this day in 1905, Rotary founder Paul Harris formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Since then, Rotary has continued its commitment to service by providing clean water, improving maternal health, awarding scholarships, fighting diseases, and improving lives around the world.
This year, also marks the 30th anniversary of the PolioPlus program. Since the fight to end polio began, 2 billion children have been immunized, 10 million children have been saved from lifelong paralysis and 125 countries have been declared polio-free. During the week of February 17 – 23, share with others how we are “this close” to ending polio and highlight Rotary’s 110 years of service.
To celebrate Rotary’s anniversary and mark 30 years of our PolioPlus program, be sure to utilize this toolkit, which includes:
Secretary Anne Adams opened the meeting, by quoting the Object of Rotary which is to encourage the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and in particular to encourage:
* The enjoyment of fellowship as an opportunity for service.
* The promotion of high ethical standards in our work and personal lives.
* The recognition of the worthiness of all occupations as an opportunity to serve society.
* The application of the ideal of service in our personal, business, professional and community lives.
* The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through our world fellowship.
President Marie welcomed Rotarians and guests, especially George and Liz Van Dam from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, USA . Last week they were in New Zealand. George said he is a long time Rotarian and has held many positions within his club and has been very involved in Youth Exchange. He said he and Liz enjoyed visiting Australia and New Zealand. In a few days will they will be returning home.
President Marie thanked Jim Hanrahan for his contribution to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International and presented him with a Paul Harris Fellow Certificate and Lapel Pin. Congratulations Jim.

Rotary Foundation Movie Night fundraiser for "End Polio Now" - 13 March
Mary Fitzgerald advised that this film evening is to be held on Friday 13 March at 7pm at the Capitol Cinema in Kepler Street. Mary advised us that the film “The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" actually opens on the 26 February and she asked Rotarians to hold off seeing it until the fund raiser night. Tickets are $20 (of which $11 goes to the END POLIO NOW program). The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel stars Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Richard Gere and many other well-known actors and is the sequel to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Both movies are based on the novel “These Beautiful Things” written by Deborah Moggach. Google “Marigold Hotel” and you can find out much more about both movies.
Communities That Care Public Forum - 25 February
Ian Cairns reminded members that recent guest speaker, Cameron Price spoke about Communities thatCare and invited Rotarians to attend a public forum at the Lighthouse Studio on 25/2/15. Ian also mentioned that another project being worked on by Care Communities is “ Ice Fight”.
Voices for Peace Concert
Judy Ross reminded us that Voices for Peace will be held on 5March at the Lighthouse Theatre at 7.30 pm. Tickets are $30 from Judy ($35 if you just walk in off the street). All profit to support the Rotary Foundation Peace Scholarships.

John Stuckey said several people had asked how Margaret was after surgery. He said she had been in ICU, but that she is now up and about and into Rehab.
As usual Fines Master Alan Bowes had a long list. Treasurer Janet was fined for not being at a meeting, President Marie for going off to Switzerland, Michael for making 59 runs in cricket and getting mentioned in the local paper, several members for not wearing badges, and at least 15 others but the reporter was so caught up in the fun and frivolity of the moment, that not all the fines were captured.
PP John Hunt interviewed our secretary and PP Anne Adams. We learned that Anne was a Woodford girl and became a Wangoom woman. She trained as a primary teacher in Geelong and returned to the Warrnambool area to teach. In 1966 she married and had to resign. Her husband Graham was a dairy farmer on a 191 acre farm with 90 cows. As time passed, the number of cattle increased to 750. Anne became very interested in agriculture/politics. Interviewer John suggested farmers are getting old and the young are not into farming. Anne assured us that there are young people farming in the local area and doing well. She said young farmers clubs were very strong years ago, but not now. The young now have so many other interests. Should people from other lands be allowed to buy Australian land? China not a big help, but people will sell to the highest bidder. Anne said she is not in the farm business now.
