Jennifer is happily retired now. Professionally, her career had been largely in higher education and in the Army - both active duty (5 years) and reserves (24 years). Jennifer was a Dean of colleges of nursing for to private Christian universities. Shortly before retiring, she began playing the harp and enjoyed doing so. Jennifer has played voluntarily in hospice settings and for some services at church; but now plays for her own enjoyment. One day she was awarded a quilt and remembered the very special feeling of that quilt wrapped around her. Soon after being awarded the quilt Jennifer joined Quilts of Valor. Rotary Host: Tony Sambol Born and raised in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. University of Iowa graduate -- go Hawkeyes! and then drove out to California looking for jobs. Leaving the state and crossing over the line into Nebraska there were signs that said "There Is No California". Who would of known? Though out my 35 years with the state, I held many positions from therapist to program manager, hospital administer to state wide volunteer director for the department, and program director for acting out children from 13 through 22 years of age, both girls and boys. My welcome to this new job was in the 1st week someone tried to burn down one of the wards. After retiring from the state I was appointed to several boards of director for foundations and to a county advisory board for a county mental health department. One of my goals that I achieved was to be the founder and CEO of a nonprofit, 501(c3), community foundation in partnership with the City of Lincoln, CA. I have lived in AZ since 2010, first at Del Webb Festival and recently here in Sun City Grand. I am a proud father of 2 daughters, 1 son and a 21 year old granddaughter and they live in both California and Washington. Here in Grand I live with man's best friend, Mr. Bozwell, a black lab, who of course, controls the entire home! My interests are swimming, fitness, music and drama.

Senior Landscape Daunting for Most
Dec. 01, 2017 11:30 a.m.
Rotary Host: Sally Williamson Christina Cave manages day to day operations for About Seniors. Professionally, Christina has been in the industry for over 16 years in Arizona. Christina gained her passion in health care at a very young age, when she was tasked with the responsibility of caring for her grandmother. Through her own experience of trying to get suitable long-term care for her grandmother, she became aware of the complex medical and emotional issues surrounding placement. Drawing from this experience Christina is able to educate families and discuss real issues of long term care and placement while creating an extremely comfortable environment for clients in crisis. She has experience in home health care, as a coordinator in an assisted living center and for the past 14 years as a placement consultant. In addition, for the past 7 years, Christina has volunteered herself to facilitate and lead a weekly support group for families and people who have been diagnosed with Dementia. About Seniors is a family owned and operated business with over 20 years of combined medical, health care and eldercare placement experience in the Phoenix Valley. What separates About Seniors from other placement agencies is our extraordinary command of the care facilities and homes available for our clients. We have built and established professional relationships with the owners and managers, and fully understand the capabilities, strengths and weaknesses of each facility. This knowledge translates into being able to discern which care communities are the most appropriate for our clients. for our Fire Department men and women who respond when we are in need
Jan. 26, 2018 11:30 a.m.
Rotary Host: Tony Sambol
Here we are and another year has gone by us! Roberta and I hope you had wonderful Christmas and New Year celebrations. Doesn’t it make you think twice how you can eat one pound of Christmas pie or cake and gain five pounds? But it is good, right?!
To get the new year started, our club is going to have a “Thank You” lunch for our Fire Department men and women who respond to us when we are in need. This event will be held on the fourth Friday of January. For this meeting, we will be gathering in the larger “Webb room.” To accomplish feeding the Fire Department crews from stations 101, 102, and 103, I am asking your help by donating $3.00 - $5.00 at each of the first three meetings in January. This should meet our financial obligation for their food. Thank you for supporting this event!
I would also like to know if you plan on bringing your spouse or friend, so that we can plan on having the right amount of food for all of us. Please let me know by email before January 12th.
May the New Year be good to you! Read more about the West Valley First Responders here. |

Amigos de Guatemala
Mar. 09, 2018 11:30 a.m.
Rotary Host: Sara Villanueva & Pieter Vos Jean Herschede has always had a fondness for Latin America from having been an exchange student to Brazil. Her career in software consulting had her working in various locations “south of the border.” Always wanting to give back, particularly with a focus on education, Jean has been involved with Amigos de Guatemala since 2010. Amigos de Guatemala was founded by Bob and Jan Hatmaker. It began as a partnership of Rotary and other service clubs to provide quality humanitarian service projects in Guatemala. The program began in 2003 with the Rotary Club of Groveland, CA building a school kitchen for a small Maya community (Jaibalito in Lake Atitlan). What the Rotary Club of Groveland began required the support and partnership of other Rotary clubs to continue. In 2004 Amigos de Guatemala began to focus the majority of their services in the area of Zacualpa, Guatemala. We partner with the Association for Development in Zacualpa non-governmental organization – ADIZ-NGO. ADIZ president (Fredy Argueta) and staff have been dependable, honest and professional in all their partnership responsibilities with Amigos de Guatemala. Since 2004 Amigos de Guatemala has completed over 20 major school development projects in the area of Zacualpa as well as assisting with their local medical needs. In 2014 Amigos de Guatemala incorporated in California as a not for profit corporation in an effort to expand its reach to those underserved in Latin America.
