The Rotary Club of Brampton had a full agenda with many distinguished guests. First, it was an honour to host DG Susanne Zbinden and PDG Sohail Nasser at the Club as they presented PP and District 7080 Polio Chair Badar Shamim with a Rotary International Avenues of Service Award (2024 - 2025), recognizing Badar for his dedication to Polio Eradication.
Then, the Rotary Club of Brampton was thrilled to welcome Richard Delongte, District 7080 Endowment & Major Gifts Chair, PP of the Rotary Club of Orangeville, and the Co-Founder of Koa Healthcare (with his wife DG Susanne Zbinden), to the Club on Monday, March 30th. Richard gave a speech about the Rotary Foundation of Canada and wove in how he has come to support and believe in charitable giving while sharing spoke ways to make members' charitable giving more tax efficient. He delivered a moving, personal story about his journey through many challenges. It was very inspiring. Overall, he emphasized investing in the future of humanity through the Foundation.
On April 6th, 2026, the Club welcomed back former member Pallavi Sathiskumar with Algoma University. She was joined by her colleague Ricky Saili. In her update, Pallavi presented Algoma University's mission, vision for the future and culture and shared goals for supporting students through scholarships. Students are in need of support for their educational pursuits. Pallavi provided information about endowed scholarships and annual bursaries and scholarships.
Saturday April 18th, 2026 was quite a day! With Rotary and community events scheduled, Rotary Club of Brampton members stepped up and represented the Club in various locations. Badar, Rita, Marlvis and others attended the Club Leadership Learning and District Assembly. President John, Jake, Stacey Ann, Segun and Nithy joined the community at the 8th Annual Run for Veterans event in Brampton. Also that morning, Deboraha, Jake, Sandra, Wendell, Dittie and Jake participated in Walk With The Earth for Honour Indigenous Peoples Y2Y in Brampton at Gage Park, while Suzanne participated simultaneously in Ottawa.
Yes, what a day! Thank you to everyone who supported all these activities. You made it all possible!
On May 20th, we were thrilled to have Jason Spalding and Sophia Johnson join us. Jason presented his talk 'Techniques for High Performance'. It outlined the ways leaders can be more effective by developing a more functional team and organizational culture. This was a wonderful presentation highlighting many truths about organizations and leadership.
He said that organizations need to nurture personal relationships with employees and build trust. Truth was a theme in his presentation. Jason remarked that Rotary's Four Way Test is foundational with the emphasis on truth.
Jason mentioned that the RCB has a great energy. We wholeheartedly agree!
The Rotary Club of Brampton was thrilled to welcome back Roots Community Services to the Glen on April 20th, 2026. We hosted Executive Director Shane Joseph along with Angela Carter and Mercy Lilian Gichuki for a formal cheque presentation to Roots Community Services. VP Rita announced the cheque amount and thanked all the volunteers who helped make the Black History Month Celebration a success. This fundraising event raised $8000 for Roots to support its services in the community.
Nicole Hand spoke to the Club about Bethell Hospice and the long history of RCB support. PP John Sanderson shared some stories about RCB's support of Bethell in the past. Bethell provides invaluable support to families and individuals during end of life care. The Club has raised $75,000 for Bethell over the years. A few members volunteer at Bethell.
The Club is thrilled for VP Rita, Luisa, Rose and DGE and Team Leader Uche who embarked on a trip of a lifetime, a Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) to Lagos, Nigeria. The theme, 'RFE Discover Lagos – Africa’s Beating Heart of Culture and Innovation!', highlights some of what Lagos has to offer as a coastal metropolis in Southwestern Nigeria.
This trip to District 9111 began on April 30th, 2026. Our four RCB members and one Rotaractor are participating in this RFE. We are excited to hear some stories from our club members upon their return.
The Rotary Club of Brampton meets Mondays from 12 noon to 1:30 pm EST and from 6 to 7:30 pm EST the first Monday of the month. Each week, we have exciting speakers on our agenda. We would love for you to come out and join us to get a taste of the Rotary experience.
