Memorable trip to Churchill for exchange student

Liza on Churchill trip

Weyburn’s Rotary exchange student Liza Biard posed in front of some rapids near Thompson, Man., where her group of exchange students stopped before boarding a plane for a trip to Churchill recently. Biard, who is from France, saw polar bears and Northern Lights during her visit to Churchill, the first time she has ever viewed them. This photo was taken by Doug Loden, who accompanied her from the Weyburn Rotary Club as her counsellor.

Giovanna let Rotarians know that her parents and sister will attend the Lobsterfest and that Kings will be hosting a barbeque on Monday, May 30th for Rotarians to meet and visit with Giovanna's family.  More details to come, but add this to your calendars now.

Rotary Salute:  Deana saluted the Rotary Club of Alexandria, Egypt.  This appeared to be a vibrant club up until 2008.  Many of their projects wererelated to the medical world:  equipment for handicapped people, money towards pediatrics and nurse training, medical convoys to rural areas.  Deana could not find information after 2008 so tried the club's contact information, but her email came back.  She wondered if the club disbanded do to situations in Egypt.

50/50: (now at $115) Tom Schuck did not draw the queen of diamonds.

Ray announced that our club will receive a Literacy Award at the District Conference.

A thank-you letter was received from Mitch Bellefleur for his Rotary scholarship won at the Music Festival.

A get-well card for Terry was passed around.  Garnet gave an update about him.

Lobsterfest:  a signup sheet went around.  A meeting for committee heads of the Lobsterfest is Monday, April 23rd at 5 p.m. at Queen Elizabeth.  All tickets are presently out.

Highway Cleanup:  a signup sheet went around.  Highway cleanup is this Saturday, April 23rd at 9 a.m.  Meet at Barber Motors at 8:45.  Wear shoes or boots, not sandals, and bring work gloves.  Wear your Rotary-at-Work vest if you have one.  If you want to meet with others for breakfast prior to this, meet at Welsh Kitchen which opens at 7.

Guest Speaker:  Deana introduced Brenda Croft of Kidsport.  Brenda told some history of Kidsport including how it got started in Weyburn.  Its mandate is to provide sport equipment and registration for families who cannot afford these activities for their children.  This is for entry level sports, not elite or traveling teams.  Kidsport's belief is that no children should be left out and all children deserve the benefits derived from organized SK Sports Council approved sports.  100% of their fundraising in Weyburn goes to Weyburn children.  Look for a full report of Brenda's talk in next week's Weyburn Review.

ROTARY E-CLUB OF WESTERN CANADA

Posted by Duane Schultz on Jan 07, 2013

Note that it is most advisable to attend meetings in person, but we do understand that Work, Travel and Health Issues may prevent us from periodically attending meetings in person. Remember when you travel to attend other clubs' meetings for the fellowship and development new friendships.

Use the Hyperlink below, or copy and paste it to your internet browser. As soon as you enter the Rotary E-Club of (Western) Canada web site you have begun to attend a meeting. As you scroll down the page click on various Video/Audio links - I heard William Shatner sing Oh! Canada.

Near the bottom of the page will be a link to click for attendance credit. Complete the information requested, including what you viewed during the meeting, yourcomments/impressions and the time you spent at the website. After you have entered your email address and submited the information you will recieve a confirmation email of your attendance.

Please forward this confirmation to Brenda King to recieve a Make-Up credit. As this is a Rotary Club service, you may want to consider donating to the E-Club the cost of the meal you missed.

My goal is for our club to attain 100% Club Meeting attendance beginning in February.
