Dorthe Flauer BA, Dipl. SW., RSW,

Educator/Social Worker, Lifestyle Options Retirement Communities 

Dorthe Flauer received her B.A. in Sociology from the University of Alberta in 2002 and Diploma in Social Work from Grant MacEwan Community College in 1997. Dorthe has been a strong advocate for individuals of many diverse populations working with children, youth, families and seniors as a front line social worker and as a Not-for-Profit Executive Director. Since 2015 Dorthe has been working as Educator at Lifestyle Retirement Communities. Dorthe’s passion includes providing the ‘Being a Star’ Butterfly Approach training to staff and is now very excited to be a part of the Dementia Care Matters Team as a casual Associate Trainer in Canada.

 

Renate Sainsbury, BA, Rec. Admin, Rec. Therapy

General Manager, Lifestyle Options Retirement Communities

Renate graduated from the University of Alberta 1981 with a BA degree in Recreation Administration. Since then Renate has worked in various roles involved in many initiatives to better lives for everyone living in our community. Currently, Renate is the General Manager of Lifestyle Options Retirement Communities that has specialized in providing person-centred care to all residents since 1996. In 2015, Renate launched the ‘Butterfly Approach’ to Dementia Care from Dementia Care Matters out of the UK at two LO sites. She continues to passionately work advocating for people living with dementia to improve their quality of life. Presently, Lifestyle Options provides the accredited ‘Butterfly Approach’ at four households at Whitemud and Leduc sites and now will launch the ‘Butterfly’ at the newly built Chateau at Schonsee Square in north east Edmonton.
