The Appleton Fox Cities Kiwanis Club is happy to have the opportunity over the years to sponsor Kiwanis youth groups in the Fox Cities area. Along with currently sponsoring an AKtion Club that meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday’s at 5:15pm at the Goodwill Campus, we also sponsor the Key Club at Appleton North and the K-kids at Park Community Charter School. Our Sponsored Youth programs promote leadership and service appropriate to every age group. Part of our support is providing a club Liaison at each meeting. Consider volunteering your time to join one of these groups at an upcoming meeting.
If you are visiting: K-Kids: Enter Lawe Street door (no need to sign in at the office even though it says to do so on the door); once inside, turn right, go down steps to the Art Room which is first door on the left. Mr. Lee Levknecht is the school contact.
Key Club: Sign at school office, meeting should be across from the office.

As part of the Service Leadership committee, Kiwanians read to 3rd graders at Horizons Elementary. The books are all at the school office. Kiwanis readers just need to go to Horizons school (2101 Schaefer Circle Appleton), register in the office, and pick up the book. The office staff will guide you to your room to read. The reading is around 1/2 hour and the book is left behind as a donation to the school.

When you walk in March for Babies, you give hope to the more than half a million babies born too soon each year. The money raise supports programs in our community that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies. And it funds research to find answers to the problems that threaten our babies. March of Dimes has been walking since 1970 and have raised an incredible $2 billion to benefit all babies.
Our club will be once again supporting the annual walk. Volunteers are needed to help with the grilling/preparation, serving, and clean-up of the food for walkers. Come for some or all of the morning. The Appleton Fox Cities Kiwanis Club is partnering with the Sustainable Fox Valley's Neighborhood Partners program this May with a neighborhood pilot which will be a model for community engagement around quality of life, health and sustainability in our Fox Valley neighborhoods. One of the projects happening this spring (in partnership with Goodwill NCW’s Community Garden Partnership Program) in a neighborhood in Appleton just north of downtown, will be making raised garden beds (a wood frame with compost to fill it) which will be available to people in the neighborhood at a very nominal cost. This program will encourage people to put these in their front yards, if they have sun there, to promote vegetable gardening. Educational and social events are also part of the project. DATE: Monday MAY 22 -fixing raised beds -bottle cap art installation In addition, we are looking for any donations of mulch, soil, compost or wood for making a new raised bed.

HELP EARN MORE THAN $500 for MNT THROUGH A LOCAL FILM PREMIERE See the hilarious "Flim, the Movie", one day before its New York, L.A. Miami and Chicago premieres and its worldwide release, at the Warch Cinema (Warch Campus Center - Lawrence University - Appleton, WI) Thursday, June 4 and 7 pm. This critically acclaimed and award winning film was a big hit at the Raindance Film Festival in London and is a BIFA nominated film (British Independent Film Award) as the Best British Independent Film (Raindance Award) of 2014. "Flim the Movie" was a labor of love for director/star Raffaello Degruttola ("Saving Private Ryan", "Rush", "Quantum of Solace") and was filmed over a five year span in such far-flung locales as London, UK, Budapest, Hungary, and Los Angeles) Starring a bevy of notable British film stars and BBC TV stars along with Appleton's very own Dan Davies who co-stars as a clueless and easily flummoxed version of himself. Speaking of clueless...Dan Davies will be there to host an intro, meet and greet and a Q & A. This first ever world premiere of the "Flim, The Movie" will be sponsored by the Appleton-Fox Cities Kiwanis Club, with all proceeds from the event to go to our MNT cause. The cost of the event was underwritten by a Thrivent Financial through its Thrivent Action Team Program. This means our club can help raise $500-$700 for MNT, based on the number of tickets sold. Tickets are $10 and there are just 135 tickets available. A limited number of tickets will be made are available at the door and tickets will be sold in advance by contacting Anthony Snyder at at 920-628-4837 or Anthony.snyder@thrivent.com. For a preview of the movie, click on the link below: http://whoonew.com/2015/05/mockumentary-flim-the-movie/
This film has not been rated yet but is very similar to a PG-13 or a TV-14 movie. (No violence, no nudity, but it has an implied and referred to adult situation and some "salty" language as those wonderfully descriptive Brits sometimes engage in!) |
