I would like to advise all RCC members about a decision of the Board of Directors on Wednesday, November 18th regarding our Stay in School (SIS) Program.  After due consideration and evaluation of all the work completed by the SIS Committee directed at mitigating risk, the Board voted unanimously to support the ongoing operation and administration of the program within the club.  This means that we will not be pursuing an external partnership to support this program at this time . It was felt that this program is too important to the identity of our club and the engagement of members to allow the management of the program to be outsourced.  For clarity, the Rotary Tom Jackson Stay in School Program team is continuing to explore the possibility of an external partnership since the needs and approach for that program are different from those of the Stay in School Program.

It is important to note that Sean Baylis will be assuming the Chair position for the program over the next few months. The entire SIS team has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the program by developing comprehensive policies and manuals that will be instrumental in addressing the risk concerns that had previously been identified. A mentor appreciation and member information session is scheduled for December 2nd at the Ranchmen's Club and anyone interested in finding out more about the program is invited to contact Monica Culic for more details. A presentation to club members is being organized for our January 12th luncheon meeting in order to provide more information about the program, the risk management practices that have been adopted, and to generally inform members about the future of the program.

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of a number of our members, the SIS program has been extremely successful for over two decades. The golf tournament fundraiser is an annual event that is extremely well supported and has created a significant source of funding for the program. There is a genuine need for this program in the community to support students in their efforts to reach post secondary education.  Members are encouraged to consider getting involved as a mentor for either of the SIS programs if you are able to commit a minimum of two years to the support of a student.

Please feel free to contact Michelle DeCecco or Sean Baylis if you feel you can assist with the program.

Sincerely,
Rob Brookwell
