Charter school Contributions and new Challenges
Jul. 19, 2019
John Adams Academy operates Northern California's only tuition-free, TK-12 classical leadership education charter schools. John Adams Academy has three locations: El Dorado Hills, Lincoln, and Roseville. John Adams Academy is preparing future leaders and statesmen through principle-based education centered in classics and great mentors. Scholars enjoy a classical liberal arts curriculum encompassing history, English, math, visual and performing arts, laboratory science, foreign language, physical education, and college preparatory electives all provided. A California State Legislative committee narrowly passed two bills this week that will more strictly regulate charter schools, including giving local school districts greater leeway to deny charter applications. Never before have charter schools been under such pressure to survive, due to the fact they are doing such a good job and making conventional public education look bad. Our speaker Carlos Yniquez is a regular guest lecturer for any faith-based groups and leadership organizations He is a passionate mentor with a proven record of

Understanding Traffic Court
Jul. 26, 2019
Our speaker Judge David Bills presents an informative and important (sometimes humorous) explaination on how to properly handle a traffic summons. Many of us are aware of some of these court requirements and processes, but our kids and grandkids who are just beginning the driving experience need to know this information to stay out of trouble with the law. David has been a Judicial Officer since 2005, serving in the Superior Court of California, County of Placer (2005-2013) and a Volunteer Temporary Judge (2013-Present) This program is a educational experience for those who don't undestand local traffic courts. Good opportunity to bring a new driver in your family to a good Rotary meeting. David received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University Long Beach (1969) and Juris Doctor Degree from California Western University School of Law (1972). He was a Trial Attorney (1973-2004) before becomng a Judicial Officer. |

Canine Companions for Independence
Sep. 06, 2019
Mark Steffens is the 2nd Vice-President of the "Canine Companions for Independence" organization and a puppy raiser himself for over 20 years. The organization he represents "Canine Companions" was started in Santa Rosa on 1993. This organization is different from "guide dogs" in that it produces service dogs that help disabled people with companion dogs. They graduate 200 to 300 dogs a year and right now need to increase their number of puppies to serve a growing need. Mark raises companion dogs and says that over the years he has changed over 300 people's lives. Fully trained dogs can follow people in wheel chairs and pick up objects (even a credit card) for them. With the "lap command" the dog will pick up an object off the ground and give it to you sitting down - on your lap. With the "Shake" command, the dog will get up on a wall and can turn on and off light switches. The dogs can use their nose to open and close cabinets and go into small spaces. The breeds that are used are Labs and Golden Retrievers. He will be bringing a trained service dog and demonstrate fi their capabilities first hand. Good meeting to bring a dog-friendly guest |

Taylor House Program
Oct. 04, 2019
Our Program for Oct 4th: Lisa Peat, Founder of Taylor House THE TAYLOR HOUSE was founded by Lisa Peat in January 2012. Lisa retired from corporate finance in 2004. In 2007, Lisa became a volunteer at Child Advocates of Placer County (CASA), where she advocates in court for foster youth. Lisa has always had an overwhelming concern for the foster children who are “lost” during their emancipation out of the system at age 18. Unfortunately, they do not yet possess the life skills to navigate through life. Out of those concerns, in 2011, she purchased a rundown, foreclosed 6-bedroom property in Downtown Roseville. Lisa and the community came together to create a safe place for these girls who have aged out of the foster care system. The Taylor House is Lisa’s goal, come to life. It encompasses all the things that Lisa and CASA have worked so hard to accomplish which is providing kids in need with reliable, responsible, caring role models and also creating a space where these young ladies can learn life skills and create responsible habits. |
