Groundhog Day, celebrated every year on February 2, is an unusual holiday that stretches back hundreds of years to European traditions and ancient times.
Why this date in midwinter? Groundhog Day stems from an ancient Celtic celebration called Imbolc, which is a cross-quarter day.
This calendar is rooted in astronomy—and the movement of the Earth around the Sun. In the Northern Hemisphere, this date marks the midpoint between the winter solstice in December and the spring equinox in March.
This week's speaker is Andrew Keys, Assistant City Manager for the City of Rocklin. Andrew has a proven track record of success in local government management and a deep understanding of financial leadership. He will be sharing what is in store for the future of Rocklin.
Patterns of Power The Mindful Habit
Last week's speaker was our own fellow Rotarian Craig Perra, Founder of The Mindful Habit, dedicated to empowering high-achieving individuals to break free from destructive habits and unlock their full potential. He shared about his personal journey and how that led him to help others.
Speach Contest
Our Annual Speech contest is next week, February 11th. The contest will take place, as always, during our Wednesday lunch meeting. The meeting starts at 11:30. Food will be served between 11:30 and 12:00. The Doors will be closed during speeches, and entrance will be available only between speakers. Please be sure to come early and support the students.
The Speech Contest is an annual event held in February or March of each year. A finite number of students from local high schools work with their Advisors and Rotary Representatives to develop and present a speech to the sponsoring Rotary Club. Winners then proceed to the District Semi-Finals and the National Final. Cash prizes are given at each level.
