During January, Rotarians are encouraged to focus on this important avenue of Rotary service. Discussions on vocational service can lead to projects that not only develop the ethical consciousness and vocational skills of Rotarians but also the talents within their communities. Vocational Service Month is an opportunity to begin year-long vocational service activities, ranging from Rotary discussions to awards to community projects.
This week's speaker is Dr. Tim Smith, cofounder with Dr. Catherine Smith of New Life Chiropractic here in Rocklin. Drs. Tim and Catherine Smith are committed to fostering wellness in the community through education, support, and personalized care. Tim will be sharing more about improving our health, energy, and longevity.
Rotary Youth Protection
Last week's speaker was Dick Fowler from the Lincoln Rotary Club. He shared information about the Rotary Youth Protection program, explaining why it is needed and what is required for a Club to be certified.
We also had Michele Vass, Chair of the Community Recognition Commission, attend the meeting to share and encourage the Club to nominate community members for the Ruhkala Community Service Award (accepting nominations until February 8, 2026) or the City of Rocklin Wall of Recognition (Accepting nominations year-round).
Fight Human Trafficking
The Rotary Club of Roseville is teaming up with PCOE and Placer County to participate in the Red Sand Project Event on January 15th. The event takes place from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Roseville at the Royer Park Bridge. All ages welcome.
Rotary sees The Red Sand Project as part of a broader global initiative supported by Rotary International, which is committed to ending human trafficking through education, prevention, survivor support, and strategic partnerships. Rotary clubs worldwide are stepping up to host events, fundraise, and engage in direct service to combat this humanitarian crisis.
Speech Contest -
We have our Annual Speech contest coming up next month. The Speech Contest is an annual event held in February or March of each year. A finite number of students from local high schools work with their Advisors and Rotary Representatives to develop and present a speech to the sponsoring Rotary Club. Winners then proceed to the District Semi-Finals and the National Final. Cash prizes are given at each level. The presentations for the students we are sponsoring will be at our Wednesday Club meeting on February 11th. Please be sure to attend and reach out to Christine Giri on how you can help.
Blood Drive -
We have our blood drive event coming up in March. The Club is partnering with the Victory High School Interact Club and Vitalant for a blood drive. The goal is to secure at least 30 donors, including community members, students, and Rotarians. The blood drive will take place on March 13th. Please reach out to Ken Broadway on how you can help.
More service events and information to come, so stay tuned.
