Welcome to this meeting of the Rotary E-Club of Canada One.
My first experience at Rotary was as a guest. The person who invited me was the program chair. Somehow, it was decided that I would introduce the guest speaker, and the rest, as they say, was history.
Since then, I have been a member of the Saskatoon North and Riverside, Northern Lights and Urban Spirits Club. As I moved around, I have kept in touch with Rotary. Over the years, I have been an avid volunteer on Rotary projects. My pockets were never deep, but my body was willing to perform in the service of others.
I work in the information technology industry as an Architect. I build systems and software. My current designation is Enterprise Architect, which means I work with companies to determine long term strategies for spending their information technology dollars wisely and productively. Yes, that does mean I am a bit of a geek. I know enough to be dangerous about many areas of technology.
I have also been a member of Toastmasters International for over 26 years. I find the two organizations dovetail well and have actually encouraged some of my Toastmaster friends to join Rotary to share their talents in a way that can make a meaningful difference to their community.

I have lived in the Edmonton Area since 2003. Prior to that I lived in Saskatoon, Regina and Yellowknife. Edmonton has become home for me because I found love and have now started a family. I married a wonderful lady six years ago. We are truly blessed with a handsome and intelligent little boy who is almost three now, and quite a handful.Looking forward, I hope to continue my association with Rotary. The e-club has given me hope of doing that in some way. While my career is as busy as ever, I hope to contribute what I can to the success of our club.

“I enjoyed the written messages from different Rotarians. I recently completed my masters degree online through Athabasca University, so I am reasonably familiar with distance technology. This was my first Rotary meeting 'at a distance'. I enjoyed it very much - great way to connect with Rotary while on the go.

“While I enjoyed everything in the meeting, I particularly enjoyed the Rotary Minute with its information about Canada's contribution to the Polio Plus campaign. Incidentally, one of our club members, Barbara Wilson, participated in the most recent Polio Plus vaccination campaign in India! I will share the success of Polio Plus and the urgency to keep up the campaign against this old enemy, especially in light of the recent polio case discovered in Somalia. Oh, and I like the idea of having a greeter and a meeting format similar to a terra club.”

The month of June is Rotary Fellowship Month in the Rotary calendar.
When we talk about "Rotary Fellowships", we actually refer to the groups of Rotarians, spouses and Rotaractors who join together to:
• Share a common interest in worthwhile recreational activities (sports, hobbies, etc.);
• Further their vocational development through acquaintance with others of the same profession;
• Make new friends around the world;
• Explore new opportunities for service; and
• Have fun and enhance their experience in Rotary.
Examples of Rotary Fellowships include: Rotarians on the Internet (ROTI), International Fellowship of Rotarians of Amateur Radio (ROAR), International Computer Users Fellowship of Rotarians (ICUFR), International Fellowship of Rotary Convention Goers, International Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians, International Fellowship of Rotarians Musicians, Rotary Global History Fellowship, International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians and lots more etc. If you like to learn more about Rotary Fellowships? Several months ago, RI approved a new Fellowship: The International Fellowship of Geocaching Rotarians. A hobby the entire family can participate in. It’s fun, educational, a chance to enjoy the great outdoors and spread the word of Rotary.
