Announcement from DG Tracey Vavrek: 2022-2023 District Governor selected
I am pleased to announce John Nicoll has been selected as the District Governor Nominee Designate for District 5370, serving as Governor for 2022-2023.
John Nicoll hails from Rotary Club Edmonton Northeast and has been an active member of our District and his Club. Currently an Area Governor for District 5370 and a Past President of the Rotary Club of Edmonton Northeast, John has volunteered for numerous committee assignments and supported many local projects with hands-on-work and fund-raising. One of his favourites is the work his club does with Abbott School, a challenged school in east Edmonton. Through his connection with a previous music teacher he learned of a need for a small grant to provide do-it-yourself flute kits for the grades five and six students. This has grown into an annual flute-building event.
For the past 25 years, he has volunteered with APEGA on the Practise Review Board and the Discipline Committee to ensure the high standards of engineering in Alberta.
John was elected to the Edmonton Public School Board for six years and served as Chairman of the Alberta School Employee Benefit Plan for three years.
His work with volunteers and boards has taught him how to lead groups of highly motivated individuals by respecting their efforts and ensuring they are included in decision-making.
John and Donna, his wife of almost 50 years, have two grown children and two grandchildren.
