A response to our meeting format from a visiting Rotarian; John Eberhard;

Which Speaker Program did you attend:

Please tell us what you enjoyed the most, what ideas have you gained that you would share with others, and what you have learned from our weekly e-meeting?
This meeting deservedly manifests the value of E-Clubs. The variety of speakers and information integrated with the fellowship of a Rotary meeting made for time well spent.

The historic simulation of the Paul Harris radio address was vintage Harris. If you combined the lessons from his three classic books, it could be fairly said that the message is captured in this broadcast to the non-Rotarian audience. the basic principal: Rotary is a Way of Life.

It is rare that an in-person Rotary meeting will have as stimulating a speaker as Dan Gilbert. Lessons on time, brain change and happiness (simulated or not) was most interesting. We all need to "accept the things we cannot change".

Thank you Lyne Ternosky for including the classic Frank Sinatra: Impossible Dream. I found myself singing to myself as I reached for the unreachable star!

Wow - Was that really Chris Hadfield? Happy Canada Day, indeed!

So, the e-club meeting was everything that was predicted when I brought the motion to the 2001 Council on Legislation that moved the RI Board to create "New Model Clubs".

While it took 10 years to have the concept firmly integrated with the continuing evolution of the Rotary movement, this program demonstrates the value of E-Clubs. Congratulations has to go out to the founders of the Canada One Club  and all who work so tirelessly to bring worthwhile weekly programs such as this edition to the Rotary World. Thank you!

Elk Falls Suspension Bridge, Campbell River, BC

I am so proud of my former Rotary club in Campbell River, I was President at the time when this idea first came to the table. Lorrie Bewza  was so determined that it could become a reality and he truly lead the way. "No" was not an option, it must be built, and Rotary will do it.
The bridge is an amazing achievement that every Rotarians can be proud of.

"Rotarian Lorrie Bewza, and project chair for the suspension bridge, said Rotary has estimated that the suspension bridge will result in 70,000 more people visiting Elk Falls each year - double the amount that currently visit the park.
He said the idea for the project was borne out of a desire to have a better view of the falls.
"In 2009 the Rotary Club of Campbell River was up walking through the park, looking for potential viewing areas to showcase Elk Falls and the canyon," Bewza said. "When we looked at the canyon we all agreed we had to build a suspension bridge and that was met with some 'really?' but we worked on that and had many discussions and we proposed it to our club and they voted on making this our major project."
Bewza said Rotary's contributions are largely thanks to the community of Campbell River, as is stated on a plaque mounted to a rock on the trail leading to the bridge.
"The plaque states 'This world-class suspension bridge and viewing platforms are the result of the incredible work of Rotarians, assisted by BC Parks and BC Hydro and the never-ending support and generous donations of the people of Campbell River to the annual Rotary TV Auction,'" Bewza said. "Without that, we wouldn't have the funding."
The project was made possible by $124,500 in funding from Campbell River Rotary Club, a federal government grant of $86,650, $325,000 from the Island Coastal Economic Trust, as well as $150,000 from BC Hydro which also shared its environmental and geo-technical reports with Rotary".

This is well worth a visit to the north island the views of this natural wonder are truly stunning.
