I have had the privilege of attending Rotary clubs in a number of Countries around the world.  Each one of them offers a unique greeting and a unique program.  Whether a person says Hola in Spanish, Slamat Datang in Malay, De Groeten in Dutch, Howdy in Texas, Welcome in English, Namaste in Indian, or Konnichi wa in Japanese, they are ways of identifying that you are welcome here. With our Rotary e-club currently having hits from around the world, we may need to find a suitable international greeting we can use to welcome our guests. Enjoy yourself at our meeting today. Rotary offers many opportunities, including TRAVEL.
Interested in India?  ROTARY presents TWO opportunities early in the new year. 
One is a Rotary Friendship Exchange, the other a national Immunization Day.  

The Rotary Friendship Exchange is an exchange PURELY for fun - district to district. There is room for a few more to join the RFE to Mumbai, India January 25 - Feb 9, 2013. Want to join them?

A National Immunization Day is planned in February. 
About 35 people will travel to Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, India in February 2013 to participate in the polio eradication program.

Records Set
Last week we had a record member attendance of 88%. And largest attendance at a Board meeting, chaired by VP Bruce. PDG Elly inducted Doug Dyer, who has enthusiastically taken on the position of Membership Chair.Danielle Bork has been active in her new position as Future Generations Chair and will also keep our Facebook and other Social Media site active. Anne Skirving accepted the Secretary’s position, and Elly Contreras-Vermeulen, who stepped down from her role as Club Leader, has agreed to serve as Program Chair.
She will continue to be the liaison between D5370 and the club.

With the addition of several members from the East, the membership voted on a change of name from Rotary E-club of Western Canada, to Rotary E-club of Canada.

Board Meeting and Fellowship
Our first on-line Fellowship event hosted by Anne, was a success. Prior to the next Board meeting we will host it again. Please mark you calendar for Monday, January 7th. Fellowship 5:30 pm, Board meeting 6:00 pm (MST)

Attendance at Board meetings qualify for attendance. Please send a message to our Club Secretary, if you have attended a Board or Committee meeting, Terra Club meeting or volunteered with a Rotary Project.

A Little Humor
True Story (submitted by a RN)
A nurse was on duty in the Emergency Room, when a young woman with purple hair styled into a punk rocker Mohawk, sporting a variety of tattoos, and wearing strange clothing, entered . . . It was quickly determined that the patient had acute appendicitis, so she was scheduled for immediate surgery.. When she was completely disrobed on the operating table, the staff noticed that her pubic hair had been dyed green and above it there was a tattoo that read . . . “Keep off the grass.”

Once the surgery was completed, the surgeon wrote a short note on the patient ‘s dressing, which said “Sorry . . . had to mow the lawn.”

December is Family Month
In a family each member cares and supports the other in time of need, sickness or distress - our Rotary Family is no different as, together, we strive to provide care to our immediate Rotary family members in time of need.
Specifically, the Family of Rotary embraces the Immediate Club Family of Members, Spouses, Widows and widowers, Children, Grandchildren, the extended family of:
Fellow Rotarians in other clubs and districts around the world, our foundation, and its alumni, group study exchange members, youth exchange students, Rotaractors, Interactors, RYLA participants, Inner Wheel and other spouse/partner groups.

The featured program of this week, focuses on the Youth Exchange students and what we as Rotarians experience by making them part of our families.
