Greeter this week: Vicki Horsfield

We all agree that one of the downsides of being a member of a Rotary E-Club is that we don't meet face to face as in a terra club. But the downside to meeting as a terra club is that members meet in exactly the same geographic location for every meeting. So it is especially rich when we E-clubbers do actually meet up with one ofwith one of our fellow member, and to add to that excitement, those "pod" meetings might happen anywhere in the world!
I had the honor of a visit from Doug Dyer and his wife, Johanne, in February here in Guatemala. Not only was it wonderful to spend some enjoyable time with them, but they came to visit our organization, Creating Opportunities for Guatemalans. As service is an inherent characteristic of every Rotarian, Doug and Johanne jumped right in and helped some of our students with their reading and their English.
Last year, I visited Doug and Johanne while they were house-sitting in Nicaragua. When they left Guatemala in February, I asked Doug, "So what part of the world shall we meet in next year??"
 I love Rotary!!

The Discoveries Awaiting Us in the Ocean's Twilight Zone
There was a common thread throughout the program of service including everything from the Inspirational Moment that discussed how we are "wired to serve" through the idea of Rotary Days and engaging Rotaract members to the big picture of creating awareness about the ocean and steps that can be taken to protect it for future generations. They all got me thinking.

Don Smith, RC of Bracebridge, Ontario, D-7010

Delightful meeting filled with resources for us to expand our learning and suggestions on knowing how to work together to "Be the Inspiration" near and far.
Lynne Ternosky, Rotary E-Club of Canada One, D-5370

Interesting to learn Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal addressing how to be effective as a global organization making the difference in lives of children @ risk, & the adjustment in policy to treat urban vs rural immunization issues.
Velma Noble, RCCHP, Calgary, Alberta, D-5360

Regarding this week's meeting program:  I never cease to be amazed at the level of phenomenal speakers Rotary is able to attract to our Rotary Conferences.  Was not aware of our connection to the Save The Children's Fund. Love hearing how Rotary continues to change the world through our world-wide relationships. And from there how we can leverage our position to affect positive change in all aspects of quality of life throughout the world and "at home".
John Wojcicki, RC of Edmonton, D-5370

It was interesting listening to Princess Anne, and her kinds words for Rotary.  I still recall watching her get married to Mark Phillips in 1973.  My, how time has flown by!

A Little Humour
My Daughter Learned to Count
My daughter woke me around 11:50 last night. My wife and I had picked her up from her friend Sally's birthday party, brought her home, and put her to bed. My wife went into the bedroom to read while I fell asleep watching the Braves game.
"Daddy," she whispered, tugging my shirt sleeve. "Guess how old I'm going to be next month."
"I don't know, beauty," I said as I slipped on my glasses. "How old?"
She smiled and held up four fingers.
It is 7:30 now. My wife and I have been up with her for almost 8 hours. She still refuses to tell us where she got them from.

Food for Thought
Submitted by Vicki Horsfield

The adventure of life is to learn.
The purpose of life is to grow.
The nature of life is to change.
The challenge of life is to overcome.
The essence of life is to care.
The opportunity of life is to serve.
The secret of life is to dare.
The spice of life is to befriend.
The beauty of life is to give.
The joy of life is to love.
