ImageGreeter this week: RI Director, Bryn Styles
I would like to thank the e-Club of Western Canada for the opportunity to be the greeter at this week's meeting. My name is Bryn Styles and through the wonders of the internet I am your greeter from Barrie, Ontario, Canada. I joined Rotary in 1986 and like most Rotarians was slow to understand the true meaning of Rotary. I urge everyone who attends this meeting to explore the possibilities of what Rotary can mean to their clubs, to their communities and to the world but most importantly what Rotary can mean to you. No idea is to simple, no project to minor and no donation to small to make a difference in the world. Rotary is adapting to a new world of technology. Enjoy the meeting and please join us again!

Inspirational Moment
We stay focused on the objectives we have for the world: Peace. Tranquility. A true Brotherhood of Man. Freedom from hunger, from oppression, from sickness. The freedom to choose our own destinies.
We reaffirm our commitment to our simple Rotary Four Way Test for all we do and support:
   +Is it the truth?
+Is it fair to all concerned?
+Will it build good will and better friendships?
+Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
We reaffirm our commitment to high ethics in all we do. And we give thanks for all the blessings, opportunities and responsibilities that befall us as Rotarians.

Food for Thought
It was the coldest winter ever. Many animals died because of the cold. The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided to group together to keep warm. This way they covered and protected themselves; but the quills of each one wounded their closest companions.
After a while, they decided to distance themselves one from the other and they began to die, alone and frozen. So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or disappear from the Earth.
Wisely, they decided to go back to being together. They learned to live with the little wounds caused by the close relationship with their companions in order to receive the heat that came from the others. This way they were able to survive.
The best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people, but when each individual learns to live with the imperfections of others and can admire the other person's good qualities.

The moral of the story is: Just learn to live with the pricks in your life!

Speaker Program
Changing Lives with Wheelchairs
What are you doing in February? Are you considering doing something special with your grandchildren this winter? Have you ever thought about participating in an International Rotary project? Do you like warm weather in the middle of winter?  This Rotary year we will distribute wheelchairs in the Dominican Republic from February 16 – 22, 2013. Rotarians from Canada, US and Dominican Republic will get together to deliver wheelchairs to  those who cannot afford them.
This project will take you to non-tourist areas of this beautiful country. We gather in Santo Domingo, and travel around the country in a bus to places such as San Juan de la Maguana, La Vega and Las Terrenas, where we will meet local Rotarians and distribute wheelchairs and changing lives.
You will be learning new traditions, taste different food, and experience the love and gratitude of the wheelchair recipients and their families. If you like more information about this project, are interested in participating, please contact Peter Denooy at
