Thank you for being part of our club, providing feedback and making suggestions for even better weekly meetings.

It’s because of you we are here, together we will charter this e-club and together we will help to make this world a better place to live in.

We wish you all a healthy and Happy New Year.
Enjoy this week’s meeting.
-----------
A happy New Year! Grant that I
May bring no tear to any eye
When this New Year in time shall end
Let it be said I've played the friend,
Have lived and loved and labored here,
And made of it a happy year.
- Edgar Guest

Inspirational Moment

Not long ago, I telephoned my wife. “I have some good news and I have some bad news”, I said.
The bad news: As I waited in a medical clinic parking lot,  the car battery died. It was particularly bad news as I’m a volunteer driver and there was a patient in that clinic who was waiting for me.
The good news:  The service contract with my car responded with a repair truck in ten minutes. With a battery boost; the car started.
Humanity: I’m thankful for the service.  It may be routine for the repair man; It was a major lift for my spirits.

The lesson I received: Thank you for all those men and women who support our daily living. They are part of the foundation of our community life together.

National Anthem by William Shatner

When William Shatner gets a Lifetime Achievement Award from Canada's Governor General, he shows appreciation as only Shatner can. In this short video, the most famous space cadet in showbiz takes helm of our heritage and treats us to a memorable rendition of Canada's national anthem.

With which this meeting is officially opened.

Comments from our Guests

Each week we receive comments from guests and Prospective members, who attend our e-meetings. We like to share some of these comments with you.

“The youth exchange program. I was an inbound counsellor for this program and the only Rotarian who participated in the annual Rocky Mountain adventure student exchange trip in District 5360 three times! I think this program is one of Rotary’s best”

Herky Cutler, REC Canada D5370

“Anyone would stop smoking seeing the Tom Mullican program.”

Lynne Ternosky, Festival City Stratford D6330

“Tom Mullican was a fascinating magician.

Also enjoyed the Rotary Minute. Didn't realize that going forward RI Presidents will no longer have their unique themes; Also didn't realize DG jackets are no longer being used.

Also enjoyed humour-holiday letter from Patty Lewis.”

Nicole Balan, London South, District 6330 (prospective member of the REC Canada)

DOING GOOD

Food for Thought

“There are two appropriate responses to frustration, you can laugh or you can cry. I prefer laughter, because there's less mopping up to do afterwards!"

Mental Health For All!

Given what happened in Connecticut this last month, it seems timely to have a program on mental health.

Nearly 450 million people are affected by mental illness worldwide. In wealthy nations, just half receive appropriate

care, but in developing countries, close to 90 percent go untreated because psychiatrists are in such short supply. Vikram Patel outlines a highly promising approach -- training members of communities to give mental health interventions, empowering ordinary people to care for others.

Vikram Patel helps bring better mental health care to low-resource communities -- by teaching ordinary people to deliver basic psychiatric services.
