Greetings from Brampton, Ontario fellow Rotarians and guests.

Barbara and I are here visiting our son Jason, daughter-in-law, Erika, and their two boys, Gordie and Albert, who was born July 23.

We are staying in the Indian Line Campground close to Hwy 427 and Finch Ave; Part of a Toronto conservation area.  It is a wonderful place to park our RV and close enough to downtown Toronto for visits but yet remote enough to feel free of the congestion and traffic of the big city.

During the summer months we live in our motorhome. Our winters are spent in Manzanillo, Mexico. That is where I met PP Elly. I was inducted into the e-club from our condo shortly after the club was chartered.

We will head back to Alberta middle of September spending a few weeks around the Edson and Edmonton areas and then head back to Manzanillo. I am registering for the District Conference in Edmonton and encourage all our club members to attend. It will be a great place to meet many of our members face to face.

The e-club fits perfectly into our lives now as we can be anywhere in the world and still take part in Rotary activities. Our club is developing and we are all learning how to work and play together as Rotarians without being in the same geographic location. It is different and certainly a challenge but I think we can all see a great future for e-Rotary but we must learn to accept the differences and promote the positives.

Remember, Rotary is: SERVICE ABOVE SELF.

Announcements

Fellowship Assembly
Every third Monday of the month our e-club will have an on-line Fellowship Assembly; A way to get to know each other better,  exchange ideas and have fun. We will feature one live speaker each month on a Rotary topic and welcome your suggestions.
This event is facilitated by SAA Frank Yakimchuk

For the September 16 Fellowship Assembly Laura Morie will speak to us from the District Office in Edmonton. Rotarians and guests from the greater Edmonton area are also invited to join us in person.

Those members won't attend in Edmonton we will see on-line via GoToMeeting.

Laura Morie is District 5370 Youth Services Chair.

She has been a Rotarian since 2002 and had since perfect attendance. She is very active in her community and has a passion for all things youth. She has been involved in various aspects of youth programming since 2006 and since 2011 is overseeing the explosive growth District 5370 has been experiencing. In 2012, District 5370 was recognized at the Zone Institute for the phenomenal expansion and activity that we have seen. Laura is past president of the Rotary Club of Westlock, a bequest society member and multiple Paul Harris fellow.

Laura balances the demands of her own business with the activities of the New Gen programming. Her experience as a Financial Planner and previous careers as a Chief Financial Officer for other companies and a marketing background have been very useful in promoting youth in our District.

Our next board meeting is September 9 after some fellowship. All members are welcome to attend and encouraged to participate. Your opinion is important! A Little Humor

My teacher asked what my favorite animal was, and I said, "Fried chicken."
She said I wasn't funny, but she couldn't have been right, because everyone else laughed. My parents taught me to always tell the truth; I did.

Fried chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA.  He said they love animals very much. I do, too, especially chicken, pork and beef. Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal's office.  I told him what happened, and he laughed, too. Then he told me not to do it again.
 

The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was.
I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, so I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken.
She sent me back to the principal's office. He laughed, and told me not to do it again. I don't understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn't like it when I am.

Today, my teacher asked us to tell her what famous person we admire most.

I told her, "Colonel Sanders." Guess where I am now...

Sergeant at Arms Corner

Welcome to this week’s Sgt. at Arms' Corner and to our E Club Meeting. I relish my responsibility to keep our Membership enthused about Rotary and to succeed in the goals set by the E Club Executive. I look forward to maintaining order and to provide each person an opportunity to contribute in a positive way during our Monthly Fellowship Meetings.

 

Past President Elly has suggested that we establish a "buddy system" for our Club. This is an excellent idea, we as a Club want members to feel welcome, we also want to make sure that no one is forgotten due to unforeseen circumstances. In one of my former Terra Rotary Clubs, I noticed that one member had been missing for a few weeks, it turned out that he had suffered a serious heart attack and needed a complex procedure and strict follow up to get healthy again. 

 

I would encourage all to keep in mind that Rotary is based on "Service Above Self" and follows the "Four Way Test" as a Guide to "personal and professional relationships".
