Welcome to the first e-club in Canada and our regular weekly meeting. Our e-meetings are attended not only by members from across Canada and United States but also from guests around the world. Over 12,000 visits have been recorded. But we aren't done yet! Our new webmaster, Lawrence Green, from Calgary and sometimes Mesa, AZ has considerable experience in website design and a keen interest in what our e-club is doing.This week our e-club reached out again to help people in need. Earlier, a donation was sent to Alliance for Smiles in support of cleftlip/palate surgeries. This week funds were provided, and will possibly be matched by the Canadian Government, to provide a Shelterbox to families in disaster circumstances in The Philippines.
This is what Rotary does. By attending our meeting, and especially by contributing a donation for the meeting you have received, you are participating in the projects of this e-club.

E-club sends relief to the Phillipines.

At a special Board meeting of this e-club, it approved support of relief efforts in The Philippines by supplying a Shelterbox donation to shelter a family. This donation may be matched by the Canadian Government. Some of the Shelterbox staff are already on the ground helping victims of the typhoon.
The e-club can be proud of its contribution, and should understand that it is the proceeds from their donations in support of the program generated each week that made supplying the Shelterbox donation possible. The quality of the program is enhanced by suggestions and material supplied by members. This is one way members can support the e-club and the good work it does in the world.

New Member Inducted
During her Official e-Visit DG Betty also inducted Lou Spizzirri former member of the Rotary Club of Sarnia, D6330, which he joined in 2000. Lou served on the Board of Directors for 6 years. Before he resigned from this club he served on the Spoke and Sergeant of Arms teams in the club. Prior to joining Rotary Lou was in the Seaway Kiwanis for 10 years and prior to that in the Point Edward Optimists club.
Lou believes that service clubs are a wonderful way to give back to the community and to make the community and the world a better place.
Lou worked as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) for 30 years until his retirement in 2010. He still holds a position as property manager in the Sarnia area.
Lou owns a sailboat in Florida on which he will be traveling extensively this season, so the e-club is a natural extension to maintaining a Rotary connection and presence.

A Little Humor
A man was sitting on the edge of the bed, watching his wife, who was looking at herself in the mirror. Since her birthday was not far off he asked what she'd like to have for her birthday.
"I'd like to be six again", she replied, still looking in the mirror .
On the morning of her Birthday, he arose early, made her a nice big bowl of Lucky Charms, and then took her to Six Flags theme park. What a day! He put her on every ride in the park; the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the ScreamingRoller Coaster, everything there was.
Five hours later they staggered out of the theme park. Her head was reeling and her stomach felt upside down. He then took her to a McDonald's where he ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a chocolate shake.
Then it was off to a movie, popcorn, a soda pop, and her favorite candy, M&M's. What a fabulous adventure!
Finally she wobbled home with her husband and collapsed into bed exhausted.
He leaned over his wife with a big smile and lovingly asked, 'Well Dear, what was it like being six again?'
Her eyes slowly opened and her expression suddenly changed.
"I meant my dress size, you idiot!"
The moral of the story: Even when a man is listening, he is gonna get it wrong.
New Members Corner
A wheel has been the symbol of Rotary since our earliest days. The first design was made by Chicago Rotarian Montague Bear, an engraver who drew a simple wagon wheel, with a few lines to show dust and motion. The wheel was said to illustrate "Civilization and Movement." Most of the early clubs had some form of wagon wheel on their publications and letterheads. Finally, in 1922, it was decided that all Rotary clubs should adopt a single design as the exclusive emblem of Rotary. Thus, in 1923, the present gear wheel, with 24 cogs and six spokes was adopted by the "Rotary International Association." A group of engineers advised that the geared wheel was mechanically unsound and would not work without a "keyway" in the center of the gear to attach it to a power shaft. So, in 1923 the keyway was added and the design which we now know was formally adopted as the official Rotary International emblem.
