The Imagination Library, March, 18 - 24, 2013 Meeting
Lorraine Gabriel, President RC of Grand Prairie

Our club is 62 years young with variably 105 fantastic members within and we are growing, changing and making a positive difference in the world as are each of you.
One of those shared projects is the Highway to Mexico project in which
several Rotarians (most from the Grande Prairie clubs) drive vehicles
filled with various medical, fire and education supplies down to Mazatlan. We work with Rotary clubs there and donate the vehicles and equipment to various communities in need. This year I, along with fellow Rotarian Dori Mark, will be driving a fire truck. We leave March 8 and there will be 6 vehicles in total making the drive. I am filled with excitement and gratitude to be a part of this experience. Check us out on Facebook
On behalf of the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie, we welcome you to the Rotary family and look forward to hearing about your clubs initiatives and successes.
You too can be a greeter and share your Rotary passion.
Please send your greeting accompanied by picture to our Program Chair.Inspirational Moment
The greatest gift is a passion for reading. It is cheap, it consoles, it distracts, it excites, it gives you knowledge of the world and experience of a wide kind.

President Elect Bruce attends PETS in Edmonton
In the picture with Bruce is Kathy Knowles, District PR Chair.
President Elect Bruce flew in from Mesa, AZ to attend D5370 PETS in Edmonton the last weekend in February.
It was a great opportunity for Bruce to meet District Leaders, Presidents Elect and Fellow Rotarians from D5370.Bruce reports: “Despite the travel distance it was a good meeting and good to connect with District leaders and members. I felt welcomed; The reaction from the members of other clubs was mixed, as you would expect. A dozen or so asked questions and were genuinely curious. The information flyer I brought was very useful. Some people of course are very cool to the idea of e-clubs, probably partly because they fear the concept (member poaching) and the "we haven't done it that way" attitude.
I was very careful only to offer information when I was asked.
The meeting material was fun and informative.
I got together with my friends and club member the Ongaro's and AG Diane and member Shanna McConnell.
We might be feeling fat with 36 members, but truth is fully 1/3 of those don't participate in the club at all; 1/3 are attending meetings but not yet committed to "engagement" and that leaves 12 willing to be active members of the e-club. That is a considered a minimal club. We would really feel it if even just a few of our committed members had to leave.
We have set the stage, it is time for the play to begin and the actors to play their parts”.

A Little Humor
Dan was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business. When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father would die, he decided he needed to find a wife with whom to share his fortune. One evening, at an investment meeting, he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away.
I may look like just an ordinary guy," he said to her, "but in just a few years my father will die and I will inherit $200 million". " Impressed, the woman asked for his business card and three weeks later, she became his stepmother.
Women are so much better at financial planning than men.
New Members Corner
NEW GENERATIONS SERVICE became Rotary's Fifth Avenue of Service in 2010. It recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities, involvement in the community, international service projects and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding.
Although Rotary Club Leadership changes over the years, the emphasis on youth and membership growth should not. Yesterday's Interactors are today's Rotaractors and tomorrow's Rotarians.

Food for Thought
Volunteering
(Submitted by Archie Skirving)
My Tuesdays are special. For weeks in advance, my Tuesday morning calendar is marked - busy!
Years ago, two family members were able to remain in their homes, because someone volunteered to visit them with a hot meal. Now, it’s my turn.
Whether it’s delivering a mean and briefing visitors in the morning, or sometimes assisting a senior to a medical appointment, it’s a happy reminder of my family, and of the community where I live, a connection that remains important to my daily living.
Years ago, a dear neighbour cared for our son. When we asked: “How can we ever repay you?” their response was: “You can’t. But one day you’ll help someone else”; - a great example for me down the years.
Here are two encouragements for me, and hopefully for you - to continue with community volunteering.
Speaker Program
With the March theme being Literacy Month, we bring you another wonderful program, that even an e-club could be involved in.
The Imagination Library was created by Dolly Parton to help promote early childhood literacy.
To find out how you can get involved, please visit Imagination Library Canada after you have watched the video.
