Greeter this week: Doug Vincent
Doug Vincent Centre

Greetings, Rotarians and friends and welcome to this week’s Rotary E-club of Canada One meeting.  Being an early supporter of the e-club concept and a supporting presenter at the 2010 COL to formalize e-clubs, I am very proud to greet you today. Through the years I have met some of you and look forward to meeting others in the future.

As you read this, I am en route to our Zone 24 Institute in New Jersey with a stop along the way for a presentation in Pennsylvania.  So while I may not be with you online today, please know that I am with you in spirit.  You are all on a great Rotary journey with your newly chartered club, and I wish you well as you enjoy this concept of Rotary fellowship and service.

I want to invite you to a wonderful opportunity at our Rotary-United Nations day in November.  Details are in the Rotary Minutes below. We look forward to having another group of Rotarians and friends.  Many may not know of Rotary’s involvement helping to establish the UN back in 1945. This is the reason why we have official status at this global institution.  To learn more CLICK HERE  and select the UN link.

Wishing you a great meeting today and much success in the future.

Inspirational Moment
Aldo Leopold, the early 20th century's Henry David Thoreau,
said that we should think like a mountain, with a sense of permanence and a long view. At the beginning of the 21st century, we are at a peak of human power, wealth and information... We need to look back at our wonderful natural and human heritage, and cherish and protect the abundant values to be found there. We need to look out to the sides and see other parts of the world that need our help and can provide good ideas to go forward... We need to look ahead to be certain that our actions of today will make the world a better and richer and more varied place for our grandchildren and their grandchildren.

Strenghtening Rotary
If you ask 10 Rotarians to explain Rotary, you’e likely to hear “um,uh,hmmmmmmmm” before getting 10 different answers. That’s what we learned from focus groups throughout the world over the last two years. Similarly, you could look at the website of 10 Rotary clubs and never guess that they were all members of the same organization.
Without the consistent look and message, how can we expect others to understand or even know about Rotary? And that’s another thing we learned. They don’t. Rotary clearly isn't getting full credit for the good work we do.
When we embark on an effort to define Rotary more clearly and identify our unique strengths, we concluded that Rotary is all about community and connection.
Through Rotary, people can join leaders to exchange ideas and take action – a simple message that will help us tell the Rotary story more effectively to the rest of the world as well as engage members in our clubs.
We’re also implementing a new look and voice, which are reflected in newsletters and our new website. We encourage you to visit the new site at www.rotary.org and register yourself at My Rotary

Accommodation is expensive in NYC. There are more economical hotels across the river about 30 minute bus ride away.  Many stay at the Quality Inn or Marriott Hotel in, Lyndhurst, NJ and save over $100. per night. Or if flying, the Comfort Inn in Queens is a convenient-to-subway location. Join me at the United Nations, meet our Canadian UN Ambassador and celebrate Rotary's role in the development of the UN back in 1945.  It will be an exciting experience.  Rotarians, family members and friends are all welcome.

With best regards,
Doug Vincent
