"I'm Eric Hansen and like many of you I'm gearing up for the last long weekend of the summer. All I want to do this weekend is; go sailing one more time, paint the deck, catch up on a pub patio with friends I haven't seen all summer, get my bike fixed, catch a drive in movie, take the kids back to school shopping, trim the hedge..."

Opening Remarks
Welcome to the Rotary E-club of Western Canada and our first September meeting. Our youngsters are going back to school, parents are going back into their daily routine and Rotary clubs pick up where they left off prior to their summer activities.
September is New Generations Month; The perfect time to promote youth in Rotary and to consider them for membership in our Club. Why not connect with young people and tell them all about Rotary?Invite them to participate in an e-meeting.
Our speaker program is about the Youth Exchange program. Something young people would certainly enjoy watching.
Enjoy the meeting and we hope to see you again next week.
Elly Contreras, Chair

Comments from our Guests

We had a record number of guests attending our meetings the past few weeks. Thank you all for visiting and for your generous contributions.
“After watching the video that Katie Ehlis created it reminded me as a young rotarian I should really participate and get involved with the various projects”.
Lloyd Fischer – Grande Prairie After 5

I so enjoy this format. You add a lot of interesting content and I really enjoyed your new alphabet! Very clever. I look at my grandson and wonder what it's going to be like for to go to school in about 5 years! What a difference from when I went to school.
The topic of success is very interesting as I have recently (in the last 3 years) established my new business, breaking away from the corporate world. Am I successful? Wow, it all depends on the measures and when I measure joy, happiness, freedom and being in service, I consider myself successful. Great to hear young people speaking positively about success”.

A Little Humor

ImageBest friends graduated from medical school at the same time and decided that in spite of two different specialties, they would open a practice together to share office space and personnel.
Dr. Smith was the psychiatrist and Dr. Jones was the proctologist; they put up a sign reading:  Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones:  Hysterias and Posteriors.  The town council was livid and insisted they change it.
The docs changed it to read:  Schizoids and Hemorrhoids.  This was also not acceptable so they again changed the sign to read Catatonics and High Colonics - no go.  Next they tried Manic Depressives and Anal Retentives - thumbs down again.
Then came Minds and Behinds - still no good.  Another attempt resulted in Lost Souls and Butt Holes - unacceptable again!  So they tried Nuts and Butts - no way.  Freaks and Cheeks - still no good.  Loons and Moons - forget it.  Almost at their wit's end, the docs finally came up with:
Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones - Specializing in Odds and Ends.

Everybody loved it.

 ROTARY Minute
PHENOMENAL 2 LETTER WORD
This may not be the traditional Rotary Minute you’re used to, but we feel it’s worth mentioning and does tie in with our Rotary e-club, which is moving Up, Up in the top of the most popular e-clubs, Up for a challenge.

This two-letter word in English has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that word is “UP”. It is listed in the dictionary as a noun, verb, adverb, [prep] and [adj]. It's easy to understand, UP; meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP?
At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP, and why are the officers UP for election (if there is a tie, it is a toss UP) and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report? We call UP our friends, brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and fix UP the old car. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special. And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is blocked UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP!
To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look UP the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4 of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions.
If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with, UP to a hundred or more UPs.
When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When the sun comes out, we say it is clearing UP. When it rains, it’s soaked UP by the earth. When it does not rain for a while, things dry UP. One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now; Time is UP! Don't mess it UP now. Because if you like to see our e-club continue to go UP? It’s really UP to you!!!!!!!!!
Oh . . . one more thing: What is the first thing you do in the morning and the last thing you do at night?
U….             P………
Did that one crack you UP?
OK, I'll shut UP now.

Food for Thought
6 Money Principles
No point using limited life to chase unlimited money.
No point earning so much money you cannot live to spend it.
Money is not yours until you spend it.
When you are young, you use your health to chase your wealth;
when you are old, you use your wealth to buy back your health.
Difference is that, it is too late.
How happy a man is, is not how much he has but how little he needs.
No point working so hard to provide for the people you have no time to spend with.
This is the proof that you don't have to have money to be happy:

Speaker Program

ImageSeptember is New Generations Month
New Generations refers to the youngest generation in the family of Rotary. Many are participants in Rotary’s youth and young adult programs: Interact, Rotaract, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), and Rotary Youth Exchange. Others are service minded young people involved in Rotary club and district activities.
Past RI President Luis Vicente Giay coined the term New Generations when he shared his belief that the future of Rotary relied on involving young people in the organization’s programs and activities. At the 1996 RI Convention in Calgary, Alberta,
Canada, he said: “Our vision for the future, now more than ever, is the difference between success and failure. The New Generations are our investment in the future. Let us begin to build that future today.”
New Generations Service became Rotary’s fifth Avenue of Service in 2010.
The following video is very inspiring message about the Youth Exchange program. These youngsters will be the future of Rotary, as long as WE keep them engaged.
