Dear friends of the Rotary E-Club of Canada One.
 
I like to share with you, that I am very happy because on March 31st, I will celebrate my 14th Birthday.
It is also the 30th anniversary of my school and as we are carrying out various activities to represent the beautiful town of Suchitlan, its culture, art and festivities. 
My classmates and I will be doing a demo on hydraulic power and some math puzzles. 
 
On February 22 we had a wonderful meal with my paternal grandmother to celebrate her birthday.
We had a wonderful time.
 
Here in Suchitlan the climate is constantly changing, sometimes it is sunny, other days cloudy but also days when it is cold.
 
It is a pleasure for me to tell you about my experiences and achievements. 
 
My parents and I thank you for the support that you have provided, so that I can continue my studies.

Hockey Heroes

On Saturday, March 5th, my wife Jocelyne and I attended a hockey game in the small French-Canadian community of Plamondon (population approx. 400) about 50 Km’s from our house in Boyle.
As a fundraiser for the local radio station, CHPL Radio Plamondon 92.1, the radio committee contacted, and raised funds, to fly out 11 former members of “Les Canadiens”.

Chris Nilan, Yvan Cournoyer (who, at age 72, just coached the team), Stephane Richer, Richard Sevigny, Steve Penny, Gilbert Delorme, Francis Bouillon, Rick Green, John Chabot, Normand Dupont, and Gilles Thibaudeau all make the trek out to a small hamlet in Northern Alberta to play a game against the best local players Plamondon could muster up.

It was a full house, and everybody was entertained by the speed and skill of the former NHL players.
Growing up, I remember many Saturday nights watching the Canadiens teams play on CBC’s “Hockey Night in Canada”, especially Yvan Cournoyer!

 

After the hockey game, we met the players at the local community hall, and had supper with them.

Why did I include this story in a Rotary Bulletin?

After the “meet and greet”, Yvan Cournoyer asked for the microphone and announced that the former Canadien players had decided to donate a very large amount of the appearance fee money given to them by the local community, back to support Plamondon's local minor hockey league!

That, folks, is truly “Service Above Self”
