Welcome to New Members Jordan and Vicki!
Jordan Pind
Jordan is a Rotary Alumni in that he was an exchange student to Taipei, Taiwan in 2013-2014 where he had different host families. He needed to learn the Chinese language, by taking 3 classes/week at a language university. There he learned responsibility, (and money responsibility!). He was able to get credit towards his Grade 12 and now plans to do a 1 year break, mobilize to Banff, where he plans to contemplate over the year, his career path.
He wants to contribute time to Rotary, and is passionate because of his exchange experience.

Vicki Horsfield
Vicki lives most of the time in Guatemala, close to the city of Antigua. She came to Guatemala to learn Spanish and stayed to do good work in the world.
Vicki was encouraged to consider e-Rotary by her friend Ellen Johnson, and then found out about the E-Club on-line and was impressed with our on-line presence, and that we are from Canada.
Her organization in Guatemala is called "Creating Opportunities for Guatemalans" and is 1 and 1/2 years old. They teach English, internet skills, helping with homework, etc. The Board members are from Quebec, and the Guatemala website is: CreatingopportunitiesforGuatemalans.com

Food for Thought

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's, arrived at the clinic where I work as a RN. He had to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.
I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him.
I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound.
On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.
While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife.
I asked about her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him for five years now.
I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?'
He smiled as he patted my hand and said, 'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.'
I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, 'That is the kind of love I want in my life.'
True love is neither physical, nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.
With all the jokes and fun that is in e-mails, sometimes there is one that comes along that has an important message. This one I thought I could share with you.
The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.
We all want to receive this kind of love, but somehow, I think, the better part is to be in a position to give this kind of love.
Some Issues of living in Rural Alberta, Canada...
The only two Ruffed Grouse that I've seen all year, and we hit them with our car...
One hit the windshield, and the other went right through the front grille of our car!

I had to pull it back out through the bottom of the grille.
Oh well, it could have been worse, there are lots of Moose and Deer here as well...
