Canada : +1 (647) 497-9353 Access Code: 487-326-165 From Delwen Stander  You may recall from last year that my firm does notarizations for “free”, and simply asks those people who come in seeking them to make a donation to the Rotary Foundation, to eradicate polio. During the year, we collect these donations (not many, as I am a barrister, and do not really deal with this type of matter). In addition, we have firm casual day on Fridays, and each of us pays a loonie for wearing jeans.
The combined total of notarization donations and jeans day loonies this year is a little over $425.00, which I am bumping up to a round $500.00. Cheers, and Merry Christmas!  Hello Members of the Rotary E-club of Canada I like to share with you, that I just did my exams for the second quarter, and studied hard for good results. (we will get the results when we return from our Christmas break on January 7th) Wednesday, December 2, one of my teachers suddenly passed away. We knew nothing, but the next day on Thursday the principal gave us the news of this tragedy. This news made me get very sad and made me cry and everything was so incredible because just the day before she was very good; She was laughing with us, while we were sharing ideas on the subject and we were talking. At that time nobody expected this to happen. Now I am taking the time to think about her words and am so happy that I can put into practice what she was telling us about our study. I like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in the company of your family and loved ones and that this 2016 will be filled with new things, love and affection for all of you. THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF STRATFORD The City of Stratford is pleased to announce that the first Syrian family will be arriving in Stratford in the coming days. Once the family has had a chance to rest from their journey and become accustomed to their new surroundings, the City will host a small reception to welcome them to our community. Avon Mennonite Church will be working closely with the family to ensure that their needs are met as they transition to life in Canada. Mayor Dan Mathieson stated “We are excited to welcome this young family with eight children to their new home in our community. We look forward to welcoming more refugees to Stratford as we progress towards our fundraising goal.” In partnership with the Stratford Festival, the City has set a fundraising goal of $225,000 to help resettle a minimum of five Syrian families in our community. To achieve this goal, we have partnered with the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), who has successfully brought refugees to Canada since 1979. For more information regarding the project or to make a donation, residents can go to www.stratfordwelcomesrefugees.ca.
