E club Friendships
The world has changed in so many ways: I know that is not a very profound thought. However club members are accustomed to embracing change, after all they are not members of a traditional club.
My best friend used to live across the street, our parents lived and worked within 100 miles of where they were born, friends and neighbours would often drop in as they passed by the house. In 2018 my circle of friends is truly global and so is my Rotary Club.
Johanne and I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting my e-club amiga, Vicki Horsfield , twice but not at the local pub or café.
The first time we met was in the park in Granada, Nicaragua, and then again last month in Antigua, Guatemala. Both times we experienced immediately that Rotary bond that is so profound. Great smiles and hugs all around!
Yes, e-friendships are different; however they are no less significant than the ones that are developed face to face. I have had many opportunities to develop friendships on-line and then at some point connect in person with those people. It is just like fond friends coming together.
If people are sincere, a common trait of Rotarians, then their on-line presence is also sincere. Without fail, people that we connect with via the internet are even more exceptional when we come together in person.
Although we do not sit down over coffee very often, many of the people I consider good friends are those that I have met via Rotary on-line. These friends come from far and wide and bring a more global prospective to share.
So it may not be weekly fellowship over lunch but it can be very fulfilling and even more enlightening.

It is always intriguing to hear the story of how a famous person has their start and what they went through to get to where they got. I too got a guitar at a young age but my path was definitely different - maybe talent actually does have something to do with what you do with the instrument! The real neat part about that, listening to Stings story, was the reminder that many of these "stars" are ordinary folks at heart with real feelings like the rest of us.

Really enjoyed the story of the Toronto High Park, its tomb, and its fence. Having lived many of my working years in Toronto, I enjoyed romantic walks in High Park and the beautiful nature found there but never saw this historical site or knew the story behind the park. Thank you for sharing this.

While the now tired and obligatory plugging of "global warming/climate change" was annoying, the balance of the program was absolutely fascinating. The discourse on the representation of mathematical formula in three dimensional crocheted coral was one of the most erudite presentations I have ever watched.

News from the Rotary E-Club Family
On Sunday, July 15, 2018, last day of the Calgary Stampede, Jean Michel Crepin, David Werrett and Peter Denooy and their significant other halves got together for a nice meal, followed by a beautiful evening in Jean Michel's condo. On the 17th floor we enjoyed dessert and after dinner drinks followed by spending time on the patio watching the sun set over David's house in Cochrane, some 25 km away. A fantastic evening celebrating Rotary fellowship and friendship on one of the most gorgeous days in Alberta.
Real Time Meetings
Each 3rd Tuesday of the month from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm (MDT) is our Fellowship Assembly, and we often invite interesting speakers or Rotary Leaders for this entertaining, educational fun event.
Each Thursday Morning from 8:00 am to 8:30 am (MDT) we host a casual FellowSIP Coffee Chat.
Everyone is welcome to attend and we encourage your participation.

A Little Humour
Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls 911. He gasps, "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator says "Calm down. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence; then a gun shot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says "OK, now what?"
