4th Annual Minden Giving Cup Deemed a Huge Success

The Minden Rotary Giving Cup Golf Tournament Fundraiser on May 18th was a huge success which is a testament to the hard work of the organizers, the generosity of sponsors, especially our lead sponsors VIP Rubber and The Black Dog Companies, and, of course, the support of Rotarians.

Ninety-two golfers teed off at Genoa Lakes and were joined at lunch by 40 others who cheered on the winning team of Elizabeth Elwell, Mike Dunn, Sheri Millichap, and Brandon Griffin (shown in the picture). Park Ranch supplied the Tri-tip for the hearty lunch which was followed by a silent auction and a live auction led by Sonney of Sonney’s BBQ! The monies earned will enable Minden Rotary to continue their support of non-profits and community groups as well as teachers as they focus on helping at-risk youth in our community.

The non-profit Me For Incredible Youth (MEFiYi) led by JoJo and Suzie Townsell was the designated partner this year who will also benefit from this event.  MEFiYi introduces and maintains student participation in education, sports, enrichment and career development.  Several students from the organization helped during the event.

So mark your calendar for Saturday, May 17, 2025 for the next Giving Cup!  Join us and have a great time!

Today, 9/10/2019, our guest speaker was Sarah Sanchez, Director of the Carson Valley Community Food Closet.  The Food Closet has been serving Douglas County, NV since 1989 providing assistance with groceries to those in need.  Sarah provided our Club with an overview of the amazing services provided to our community.  The Food Closet is located at: 1251 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville, Nevada.

The Food Closet operates through contributions made by Carson Valley residents, local service groups, churches, businesses and local food merchants.  Food is picked up each day at local grocery stores by volunteers.  As a member of the Northern Nevada Food Bank in conjunction with Feeding America, food items are purchased through the Food Bank at greatly reduced cost.
Bookmobile  On 8/9/2019 the Douglas County Library celebrated the Grand Opening of its Bookmobile at Heritage Park (Minden).  This will be a wonderful addition to our community and is one of four bookmobiles in the entire state of Nevada.  Club Member John Carne actively participated in this process and was at the event on behalf of the Rotary Club of Minden Nevada.  For more pictures click on the link on the left side of this page.

This past Saturday, we saw the great people of the Minden Rotary pull weeds for 2 hours at the Carson Valley Food Closet.  Organized by Ken Miller, Minden Rotary cleared a large portion of the drainage ditch and a section of the food closets property making it ready for future landscaping. Thanks to all.
