Minden RotaryClub Foundation
In the late 1980s there was a tragic automobile accident in Carson Valley involving a very well-liked young woman (born and raised in Carson Valley and a graduate of Douglas High School). As a result of the accident, there was a lawsuit and her family was awarded a settlement. The family wanted the money to be used to benefit people in the Douglas County community, but didn't have a pl...an on how to proceed. They left it to the court to decide what the beneficiary would be. The Court awarded the settlement to the Rotary Club of Minden to be used in accordance with the families wishes.
The settlement funds were used to help establish the Minden Rotary Club Foundation by a group of Minden Rotarians. It was granted 501 (c) (3) status by the Internal Revenue Service in April 2008 as a charitable foundation.
Additionally, this foundation has provided scholarships to Douglas County working parents, funded defibrillators in schools and is currently partnering with the Library Foundation to fund a mobile library for the valley - but more to come on that soon!
