It seems like only yesterday that we were farewelling Heidi as she headed off for an enormous adventure, on Rotary Youth Exchange, and now we welcome her back. She was full of enthusiasm for all the experiences - her host parents were "lovely", The Country was "perfect", her name "Heidi" carried nationalistic implications, it was an amazing and life changing experience.
Heidi thanked the club and all the members, and we look forward to a further visit and report from Miss Schuter, with President John hinting that by March, Heidi may be sufficiently back to earth, and had time to prepare a program based on all her experiences.
Geoff Hamilton was asked to lead the singing of Rotary Grace, and then we dispensed the loyal toast.
A call for visiting Rotarians almost went through to the keeper - until a belated call, "O, thats me" from Denise Flockton, who was our Guest Speaker, representing Dragons Abreast, the Dragon Boat racing ladies supporting Breast Cancer survivors. When guests of Rotarians were called, Paul Milde introduced Richard Rossiter.
John welcomed Franzi back to the meeting. She gave us a report on her holiday activities, with a trip to Melbourne with Chris and Angela Metcalfe for shopping, and then on to the seaside at Portsea. It seems that you need only be near the sea to get seasick, as Franzi felt off colour, and didn't get to the beach. After returning to Wagga Wagga, a change of host parents was scheduled, and now Franzi is with David and Kaz Hodge. She has been water skiing, including stints at Mulwala, Talbingo and on Lake Albert.
John will be leaving for a few days in Melbourne later today, and Franzi will be going along as his guest. The Australian Open Tennis is the focus, and among the names mentioned at the meeting, in quiet conversation, were Boris Becker, and Stefi Graf.
John Smith introduced our Guest Speaker - Denise Flockton.

Taking the parade this week, Sergeant Georgiou has worked out why Greece has never played a dominant role in World Tennis - Greeks only realise their potential after relocating to Australia, by which time they are called Australians. A quick glance at a few Greek Travel Posters may explain this dilemma. All of Greece consists of small islands, with steep cliffs and white painted houses, leaving no flat land for tennis courts, and no whitewash for marking tennis courts. Michael was proud of the two young lads of Greek heritage that won early round fixtures at the Tennis open.
Not many Sergeants get such easy ammunition as Andy Irvine provided last week. A hole in one, and Andy didn't see it go in the hole - his playing partners had to look for the ball, before finding it at the base of the pin. This leaves it open for allegations of "did the magpies play a role?"
Rob Fuller wasn't wearing his dinner badge, and that incurred a very 1980's fine, but his excuse, "I was running late" opened up a double dip opportunity for the Sergeant.
Paul Milde, in his role as Secretary, announced member commitments and Rosters.
