Our Meeting

Secretary Paul Milde made a few additional announcements to his normal rosters:
  • The annual Robbie Burns Supper will be held at the RIverine Club on 17th July. Paul says to pull out your kilt and get yourself down for a night of entertainment and traditional Scottish food.
  • Paul read a letter from Helen Munday and Gayle Myers on behalf of the Wagga Women's Health Centre, expressing their thanks for our recent donation and commitment to the compact with Kapooka to try and tackle domestic violence. They reminded us that one in three women experience domestic violence and 39 women have been murdered so far this year in domestic violence incidents.
  • The new Board will meet on 20th July at 5.30 p.m. Commercial Club.

David Benn drew our attention to a  Rotary Golf Day on Sun 28th June. The Barbecue has been cancelled due to insufficient numbers but golfers are asked to be ready for a 1.30pm hit off.

Sergeant Michael Georgiou raised the tension level when he came to the microphone but a sigh of relief was audible when it was noted that there were no women present. Turns out his history of jokes goes back a long way to his days in APEX. After fining all members of the Club for either being a supporter, or for not being a supporter of the  NSW Blues, he produced his "piece de resistance", a ballad, framed by a toilet seat, presented to him when he was leaving APEX.

THE WILD COLONIAL BOY

THERE WAS A WILD GREEK-CYPRIOT BOY, MIKE GEORGIOU WAS HIS NAME,
OF POOR BUT HONEST PARENTS ,HE WAS BORN NEAR THE AEGEAN,
HE WAS HIS FATHER’S  UGLIEST SON,TOO SINFUL FOR THE CHURCHIN,
BUT EVEN SO  HIS PARENTS LOVED THEIR LITTLE GRECIAN URCHIN.

BARLEY EIGHT YEARS OF AGE,WHEN MIKE BEGAN TO ROAM,
HE FOUND AUSTRALIA’S SUNNY SHORE AND CALLED IT HIS TRUE HOME,
HE CAME TO WAGGA WAGGA AND THOUGHT “ HERE I’LL FILL MY BELLY”
“AT 2,  3 , 6   IN BAYLIS STREET IS WHERE I ‘LL SET MY DELI “

SO HE SETTLED DOWN IN WAGGA TOWN AND JOINED THE APEX CLUB,
HE’ D GO ALONG AND MEET THE CROWD AND HAVE A BITE OF GRUB.
TO TELL A BRAND NEW JOKE , WAS MICHEAL ‘S PRIDE AND JOY,
A TERROR ON THE LADIES NIGHTS , WAS OUR WILD GREEK – CYPRIOT BOY,

THE YEARS PASSED BY , MIKE WAS FLYING HIGH, BUT HIS JOKES GOT VERY DIRTY,
“ THANK GOD ,” YOU COULD HEAR THE BOYS CRY “ THAT JOKER IS TURNING FORTY”
“ NOW HOLD THE  BUS”, OUR MICHAEL  CRIED “YOUR GETTING OUT OF LINE,
“ I ' VE JUST BEING TALKING TO MY MUM , SHE SAYS I' M THIRTY NINE,

SO WE PUT OUR HEADS TOGETHER MIKE, AND WONDERED WHAT TO DO,
TO TOSS YOU OUT  , OR KEEP YOU IN , IT WAS AN AWFUL STEW,
WE DECIDED THAT , FOR TWELVE MORE MONTHS, WE COULD HANDLE GRECIAN JOKES,
SO IF YOU WISH, FOR ONE MORE YEAR YOU CAN STAY WITH THE APEX BLOKES,.

SO PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER CHAPS  , AND WELCOME MICHAEL BACK ,
FOR IF YOU DON’T, THE LIONS CLUB WILL HEAR THE JOKES HE”LL CRACK ,
YOU CAN BE SURE , THERE ARE PLENTY MORE OF MICHAELS JOKES TO COME
SO GRAB HIM BY THE SHOULDERS BOYS  AND SIT HIM ON HIS BUM.

THERE IS A WILD COLONIAL BOY MIKE GEORGIOU IS HIS NAME.

Rob Nicholson cross fined John Smith, who apparently has, till now, a hidden talent as a brewer. Tasters stated that the brew tasted like cats' wee. They drank it nevertheless.

Motor Neurone Disease Support.

Lawrie Blowes, on behalf of the  Projects Committee followed up a local push to set up a support group for sufferers and their families. This was in response to a national appeal initiated in Melbourne by Neil Daniher. It is proposed that our Club donate $500 to help the group which will hold its first meeting next Tuesday at the Commercial Club at 11 am. All are welcome to attend.

Wollundry Cycle Challenge is on again. Phil McIntosh thanked those 14 members who had attended a preparatory meeting and reminded members that another meeting was to be held Tues pm at the Commercial Club.

Portable Heart Defibrilators aka Packer Wackers.
Travis Downie has been pursuing his great proposal to have these machines placed in many public locations to save lives in the event of heart attacks. He is doing further research on locations and possibilities and is hopeful of support from St John's Ambulance service NSW.

Budget 2016 and Member Survey

President Elect Geoff Hamilton presented both these items with a no-nonsense Power Point display.
The budget was well received by members who asked a number of questions to clarify some line items.
The Club Account (pertaining to the running of the Club) and the Community Account (pertaining to fund raising and charitable donations) were dealt with separately. Members were all emailed the budget and survey papers and are referred to those for details.

Geoff pointed out that the Budget is a joint effort from the incoming and outgoing treasurers as well as James Hamilton, and David Hodge.

The Members Survey was well received with responses from 61 of the 70 possible replies. This is an outstanding response. Geoff commented that two responses stood out, one that we wish to remain a single sex club and two that Sunday Markets are not favoured by the majority of members.

Geoff took the opportunity to thank President John Ferguson and Secretary Paul Milde for the outstanding way they had conducted the meetings and lead the Club during the past year. Members gave them a rousing Three Cheers.
