Hawaii Marine Animal Response (HMAR)
Jan 08, 2021 7:15 AM
Jon Gelman is founder and president of Hawaii Marine Animal Response (HMAR), the largest Hawaii-based nonprofit organization engaged in marine conservation response, rescue and education. Now in its 5th year of service, HMAR works to preserve Hawaii’s marine protected species including Hawaiian monk seals, sea turtles, seabirds, dolphins, whales and the ocean ecosystem we share. Originally from southern California, Jon has lived in Hawaii for nearly 27 years and resides in Kailua with his wife and miniature long-haired daschund. Prior to founding HMAR, Jon spent 32 years in the telecommunications industry serving in a variety of senior and executive management roles before leaving that business behind to pursue work to make a positive impact on the ocean and the animals that call it home. |
