Lionsgate Rotary club will be again participating in the 6th Annual Rotary Masters Golf Pool. This is a fun way to help our club fundraise and enjoy the Masters Golf Tournament. This is the month for us to consider how our Rotary values – and our own actions – influence public perceptions of Rotary. Rotary’s strategic plan outlines five core values that define and guide us as we chart a course into our second century of service. Service is our first value, as it should be. The focus of service is reflected in our primary motto, Service Above Self. We have the potential to create better, safer, and healthier communities, one project at a time. Fellowship is the reason Rotary was founded over 100 years ago. The friendship, the camaraderie, and the wonderful sense of doing something good together is what keeps us all looking forward to our Rotary meetings week after week. Diversity is an aspect of Rotary that becomes more important with every passing year. Integrity is fundamental to the organization’s identity. Every Rotarian is a guardian of the reputation that generations of Rotarians have worked to build. When we maintain the highest ethical standards in all of our dealings, we strengthen the trust that allows us to serve more effectively. Leadership, the fifth, and final, core vale. Each of us must remember, with our every action, that we are Rotarians. When we are chosen to become Rotarians, and when we choose to accept that honor, we take it upon ourselves to become representatives of the entire organization. When we are known as Rotarians, then everything we do reflects upon us all. By living by our core values and committing to Service Above Self, we build a stronger Rotary and a better world for all. |

.jpg) The true Rotary experience occurs when the flavour and dynamic of the club encourages and welcomes the involvement and participation of each members spouse and family.
The club itself and the projects it sponsors all benefit when each Rotarian and the entire "Rotary Family" fully participates in club activities.
A solid and successfully Rotary club is fostered by a regular lineup of fun fellowship functions, projects and parties that embrace the entire extended Rotary family.
Each year the importance of the Rotary Family is honoured and recognized during the month of December.

| Sara Eftekhar of North Vancouver is Named a Rotary Peace Fellow | Posted | on Nov 13, 2014 |
 Sara Eftekhar has received word that she has been named as a 2015 Rotary Peace Fellow. Sara will pursue a Masters at the Rotary Peace Centre at the University of Bradford in the UK in the field of international studies, peace studies and conflict resolution. The one-year Fellowship covers fees, living and travel expenses and an applied field experience, in excess of $50,000 USD. Sara was chosen out of many candidates and is one of only four Canadians to receive this world-wide honour.
Sara’s passion for peace and social justice is born out of conflict. She and her family fled turmoil and persecution in Iran for a better life in Canada when Sara was 8. Sara’s volunteerism and leadership throughout her school years earned her the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, an Outstanding Youth Award from the Mayor of North Vancouver, the YWCA Vancouver’s Young Women of Distinction Award, and was the youngest to ever be named among the Top 25 Immigrants of Canada. Sara graduated from UBC with honours in Nursing.
A graduate degree in Peace Conflict and Development will enable Sara to pursue her long-term goals of building on her nursing foundation to be able to expand her work from an individual level to that which can address inequities at the population level around the world and obtain a high leadership position within the World Health Organization.
“We are truly honoured and proud that Sara Eftekhar, our Club nominee, has been chosen from among many other talented young people to receive the 2015 Rotary Peace Fellowship. Sara is already a very accomplished young woman, and this Fellowship means that she will continue to lead and give back so much to the world in the years to come. Sara exemplifies Rotary’s commitment to community leadership, global citizenship and fellowship.”

Welcome to our Rotary Club !
Welcome to the Rotary Club of Lions Gate, North Vancouver, Rotary District 5040's Outstanding Club of the year for 2010-11. If you are a visiting Rotarian or someone who lives or works on the North Shore who would like to see what Rotary is all about, I invite you to join us for lunch on the first, second and fourth Friday of the month at the North Shore Winter Club - www.nswc.ca We are a small, vibrant club and very friendly and welcoming. We have a lot of fun at our meetings while still respecting the traditions of Rotary.  A message from President Jim Thompson: Welcome to our Rotary Club! Welcome to the Rotary Club of Lions Gate, Rotary District 5040's Outstanding Club of the Year 2010-2011! If you are a visiting Rotarian, or someone who lives or works on the North Shore who would like to see what Rotary is about, I invite you to join us for lunch any Friday at noon, at Cheers Restaurant in North Vancouver (check the Map for detailed directions). If you are visiting and staying on the Vancouver side of the harbour you will enjoy a pleasant, relaxing 12 minute ride on the Seabus which docks at Lonsdale Quay. A short stroll up Lonsdale Ave will bring you to 2nd Street, and Cheers is just ½ block east. We are a small and vibrant club and you will find us very friendly and welcoming. We are relaxed, informal, and have a lot of fun at our meetings, while still respecting the traditions of Rotary.  The Rotary Club of Lions Gate was selected Outstanding Rotary Club 2010-2011 !!!
At the District Conference held May 6-8, RCLions Gate was presented with Outstanding Club of the Year Banner by District Governor Penny Offer. Present to accept the banner on the club's behalf were: President Jim Godey, Shirley Robertson, Anne Marie Ferguson, Sue Godey, Terry Lehouillier and Tan Panyanowat.
The club was also recognized by the North Shore News - photo in June 19th, Sunday edition. Peter Hansen, Nancy Roblee, Peter Roundhill, and Shirley Robertson are pictured here.

 In case you missed a meeting or our social last month: We enjoyed Isabella Bateson, our newest member, give her 'vocational talk' (the story of me) Emily Neufeld and members of the Blueridge Community Association spoke to us about the plans for the new Sharing Garden. 16 Rotarians and Friends enjoyed Pitch and Putt at the Murdo Fraser golf course. Elizabeth Chong updated the club on our progress with the School for Hearing Impaired in Bali, our international project. |

District’s 5040 and 5050 have teamed up with the Vancouver Giants for the 5th annual “Rotary on Ice” event to raise awareness for Polio Plus.

 It is with sadness that we learned today that Bob Resch passed away on May 24th, 2013 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with Vicki and the family. We have lost a great guy, humanitarian, family man and friend. Details regarding arrangements will be announced.

 At the recent 100 years of Rotary Celebration in British Columbia this past weekend, our joint club project was highlighted by a display booth set up at the Vancouver Conference Centre and 'manned' by Rotarians from Burnaby Club Deer Lake and Rotary Club of Lions Gate members.  Peter Roundhill has taken on the organization of our fellowship/social nights which is a wonderful way to get to know other members of the club in a very relaxed and unstructured setting. Past socials have included BBQs and dinners al fresco in the summer months, games night at the West Van Yacht Club, pub night nights, wine and cheese and movie night to name a few.  At the recent District 5040 Conference, president Yazdi, was presented with the Presidential Citation for his year of leadership along with the Changemaker Award, only 3 of these were bestowed in the entire District! What another amazing year our club has had. Congratulations to all club members and to president Yazdi for his leadership and direction!

Rotary Fellowships Month - June is designated as “Rotary Fellowships Month” by the RI Board to recognize the importance of international fellowship and good will among Rotarians with similar recreational interests, vocations, and health and medical issue-oriented interests, to promote increased participation in fellowships and increase understanding of this program. The RI Board encourages fellowships groups to highlight activities through projects, activities, and events in celebration of “Rotary Fellowships Month” in June.
