IT Consultant Zeke Segerstrom, a Madison South member, had some sobering words regarding internet safety.

“Scams are the future,” he warned.

He says the average loss in a variety of scams is $38,000! What the fraudsters do is convince you to hand over sensitive information and then drain your bank account. They are very adept and now can scam exponentially more victims using AI technology. Zeke says internet fraud spiked 37% from last year.

Here's his advice for protecting yourself with secure passwords:

  • Use a different password for every account.
  • Use 14-16 characters.
  • Avoid common word patterns
  • Change passwords every six months.
  • Never share your passwords.
