Today we were joined by Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway who shared with the club an update on all things happening around the City of Madison. Some of the highlights included an update on the new developments in south Madison, including affordable housing, preventing displacement of current residents and strengthening community ties. Satya highlighted a couple of building projects in south Madison, including the Black Business Hub, Centro-Hispano, the Center for Black Excellence and the redevelopment of the land across Badger Road from Madison College. On a macro perspective across the city of Madison, Satya highlighted priorities for growing affordable housing for the middle class, the bus rapid transit system with electric buses, the first electric fire truck in the country here in Madison, and public safety to decrease violence and safer streets (reduce speeds). Satya also fielded several challenging questions from Rotarians.
