Rob Gooze Encourages International Service
Showing up makes a big difference. Rob Gooze, a world traveler of the first order, says it sure has made a huge difference for him in terms of understanding the problems on the ground. Nothing beats actually visiting the country that you're trying to help.
“Until you're in the country, you really don't know what's going on,” explained Rob.
He returned to Guatemala in February of this year after a long hiatus, when he originally visited with his wife, Mary. They have a strong interest in education, with the larger goal of “ending the circle of poverty.” Today, Rob reports progress in the country as half of the schools now have internet access.
Rob highly recommends going on an international service tour, as the experience is extremely rewarding, meeting fellow Rotarians and a lot of people in need.
“Madison South's $5,000 donation to the GLP-Global Grant became $23,000 via the $10,000 match from District 6250 and $8,000 from The Rotary Foundation (TRF),” according to Rob. "So, our donations to TRF-Annual Fund comes back to us for projects such as these.
