MAY 22, 2022 SALUTE THE TROOPS CONCERT IN THE PARK

We couldn't have asked for a nicer day for Sunday's Salute the Troops Concert at Bethlehem Rose Garden. The Allentown Band played their wonderful patriotic tunes, while the audience eventually grew to over 100 attendees. Many thanks to the MSR volunteers that came out in support of the concert. Thank you to Gayle Justice for steering us through the rough patch these past few years. And a special thank you goes out to Ron Searfoss for taking the helm to make sure this concert happen. Through our efforts, we collected $450, which will be donated to Victory House of Lehigh Valley. Donations for VH are still being accepted. You can bring to meeting, mail a check or Click to DONATE.  In the Notes area, please specify where your donation is to be directed.

MAY 12, 2022 MAYOR REYNOLDS STATE OF BETHLEHEM
On May 19, 2022 Mayor Reynolds presented key elements of his State of the City Address. Upon seeing our 4 Way Test Banner, he immediately commented on the parallels of Rotary to the focus of the City.

Following is a list of the topics discussed:

Dedicated employees & high level services throughout the community

Business & Nonprofit assistance for Pandemic Recovery

Demand to Live, Work & Play in Bethlehem – more jobs, growing population

Investment in New Construction

Financial picture is very strong. Bethlehem highest bond rating of any city in PA

Pandemic recovery effectively managed

Affordable Housing – major challenge all over. 15,000 units short in LV

Homelessness support – a growing challenge

Goal is to help all people in the community

World heritage site designation is very significant deal

The Mayor highlighted how the Affordable Housing situation is impacted by the ever increasing desirability of people who live here are happy and continue to stay in the LV.

Overall, recognizing significant challenges being addressed not just in Bethlehem but with our sister communities, the future of the city is strong and focused on sustainable growth.  We thanked Mayor Reynolds for taking the opportunity to engage with MSR!

MAY 19, 2022 TRADITIONS OF HANOVER
Thursday, May 19th, we met at Traditions of Hanover. Cathy Heimsoth, Executive Director and Megan Sedlock, Marketing Director, welcomed us and provided interesting incites into the  Traditions family philosophy and dealing with the pandemic impact. People need people. Cathy highlighted the critical need to take care of our selves. Neglecting this contributes to anxiety and depression. Traditions seeks the balance to level things out. The Traditions community makes it much easier with others around.  New challenges being experienced are the inclusion of inter-generational residents reflective of the aging baby boomers with changing perspectives. A continual measure of their community focus is the longevity of both the patients in residence and the long term staff. With a 124 person capacity and a robust waiting list, it is recommended people plan ahead realistically.

We want to thank Traditions for their continued support and look forward to engaging in other events.

Reminder - Save the Date Saturday Nov 5th for the return of Salute The Troops concert to the Northeast Middle School.
