Allentown Art Museum
Jan 22, 2021 12:00 PM
The Art Museum is planning a public unveiling of its recent reattributed Rembrandt, “Portrait of a Young Woman,” amid a downtown Allentown rejuvenation that is poised to regain momentum following the pandemic.
“It is clear that Allentown is on a positive trajectory with cultural and professional development,” President Max Weintraub said. “The Allentown Art Museum is perfectly poised to help fuel that charge. Because we are perfectly situated between Philadelphia and New York, we can maximize connections with artist communities that I have worked with for decades. People want a dynamic, intimate, personal experience at a museum – and our size and wonderful world-class collection is perfectly positioned to deliver that.”
Weintraub has a broad and stellar resume. Since January 2019, he has been senior curator at the Aspen Art Museum in Aspen, Colo., where he was responsible for the museum’s exhibition program. Before that, he was director and chief curator of the art galleries at the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis.

Lehigh County Farmland Preservation
Feb 12, 2021 12:00 PM
As of the beginning of 2020 Lehigh County preserved approximately 25,000 acres of farmland. The Bureau of Agricultural Land Preservation works with the nine-member Sterling Raber Agricultural Land Preservation Board of Lehigh County to preserve farmland within Lehigh County. The name of the board was changed at the end of 2009 to honor Sterling Raber, former county commissioner and chairman of the farmland preservation board, for his long-time dedication and commitment to protecting agriculture and rural life in Lehigh County. The preservation of farmland is accomplished through the purchase of agricultural conservation easements (also known as the purchase of development rights) on eligible Lehigh County farm properties. As of January 2020, the County Board has protected 347 Lehigh County farms covering a total of 24,880.45 acres with perpetual agricultural conservation easements. Chair: Ibi Balog. Allentown Public Library during COVID
Mar 19, 2021 12:00 PM
The Allentown Public Library The Allentown Public Library has been serving the community since 1912. From its first location at 9th and Hamilton Street, to its current location at 12th and Hamilton, the library has been a fixture in this City through times of war, economic hardship, and world-wide pandemic. Books, newspapers and magazines still line its shelves, but electronic resources, public computers and streaming services are some of the modern highlights of its collection. Whether they visit in person, take advantage of the drive-through window, or download content from the comfort of their homes, users can depend upon the library to connect them to the information they need and the entertainment they seek. The Allentown Public Library is a community hub for cultural enrichment. Nancy Sherman is the Outreach Coordinator for the Allentown Public Library. She joined the library staff in late 2020 and has already started to become a fixture at some of the library’s regular outreach sites. Nancy has a Master of Education from Lehigh University and a Master of Library Science from Indiana University, Indianapolis. Renée Haines is the director of the Allentown Public Library. She has been with the Allentown Public Library since 2009, first serving as the Interim Library Director and then as Executive Director beginning in 2010. Having had the title of reference librarian, acquisitions librarian, and consultant librarian, Renée has also worked in academic and public libraries throughout the Lehigh Valley. Renée is a library nerd through and through, with a Bachelor of Library Science from Kutztown University and a Master of Library and Information Science from Syracuse University.
