On Tuesday, December 13, District Governor Laura Morie came to visit our club. Each year, the District Governor visits each club in the District. During that time, she also meets with the Leadership Team prior to the club visit. Our club was the last on her club tour for District 5370 and we are so grateful to her for her dedication and passion for Rotary. In total, she has been part of over 120 club meetings and visits since July 1!

 

District Governor Laura spoke to us about the important of Rotary, youth being our future, the need for clubs to be flexible, some unique growth strategies and the importance of the Rotary Foundation; this 100 year old organization is the financial fuel that drives Rotary. This year, the Rotary Foundation is celebrating its Centennial. It all started with a donation of $26.50 and since then, it has handled billions of dollars and truly made the world a better place.

On Tuesday, December 6, our FUN FEARLESS & FOCUSED Rotary club served dinner to the families at Ronald McDonald House. In the true spirit of our FUN FEARLESS & FOCUSED Rotary Club, our members decided to have a Ukrainian night.

 

 

On Sunday, December 4, some of our members, along with the University of Alberta Rotaract Club and the Strathcona County Rotaract Club, these ambitious Rotarians made over 300 perogies!
 

 

 

Rotary is THIS CLOSE to eradicating Polio world wide! The Edmonton Oil Kings have again given us a great fundraising opportunity to help in our battle to put an end to Polio and the Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Ave has risen to the task by taking 80 tickets, fair to say all other clubs in District 5370 have been issued a challenge. By attending the Oil Kings game January 22nd which has a 4:00 pm start, the Oil Kings will again donate a significant portion of the ticket price back to District 5370's end Polio campaign.
 
You don't have to be a hockey fan to help out, tickets can be used as Christmas stocking stuffers and employee gifts, and what a great way for you and your club to be involved in your community by donating tickets to students in your Interact clubs, youth leadership programs, Boys and Girls clubs etc..
 
As before, a large portion ($9) of the $27 cost of each ticket purchased is being donated back to District 5370 and Polio Plus, Of course, our goal is to surpass last year's 561 tickets sold.  Be a part of this most important event!

 

We are this close, and now with the matching programs that are currently in place we have a chance to leverage every 1$ we raise to $5 at the TRF level, this opportunity will not last forever.
