Congratulations and Welcome to our Newest Member Eric Saulnier!
This past week we inducted out newest member Eric Saulnier!! Eric was at Marilyn Mucha's house and Saiyed Jaffer created one of his wonderful Sword induction ceremony videos for Eric. I've posted it below.
About Eric -
Eric was born and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick within the United Pentecostal religious organization. Married to wife Jessica he has two kids, Ryan and Sarah. Eric is a hard-working, eccentric, and passionate young man who chooses to seek out the positive aspects of life and embrace challenges with intrigue/ interest.
Eric graduated as a power engineer in 2009 from the New Brunswick Community College program and his career experience includes nuclear power generation (CANDU reactor), pulp and paper (rayon process for textile industry), and oil & gas (mainly oil sands open-pit mining). Presently, Eric is employed with Canadian Natural Resources Limited as a control room operator as he has for close to a decade.
Eric states that his reasons for wanting to join Rotary are to work alongside other like-minded change makers, discuss and implement strategies to help local efforts to support those in need, and eventually getting involved in affordable/ low-income housing projects (either through Habitat for Humanity, government lead programs, or other Rotarian led projects).
Welcome to the Whyte Avenue Rotary Club, Eric! We are so thrilled to have you as our newest member!
The Rotary District 5370 Charitable Foundation is seeking a Rotarian from the Edmonton area who would like to join the Foundation board as treasurer. Kathy Strobl, who has served as our hard-working treasurer for the past few years (including the very busy period when we were managing the Ft. McMurray Fire Relief Fund) wishes to step down from that position. We are looking for a Rotarian to take over from Kathy during the coming year. Duties include attending our quarterly meetings, receiving and depositing donations, issuing tax receipts and completing the annual filling with CRA and Alberta Corporate Registry. Familiarity with the SAGE accounting system would be most beneficial.
If you are interested in discussion this position, please be kind enough to contact Julius Buski, RDCF President, at buski@shaw.ca
This is a volunteer position at the same rate of pay as all Rotary work. :)
Note: Rotary District 5370 Charitable Foundation is a CRA registered foundation whose sole purpose is to provide a service to Rotary clubs in the district who wish to raise funds and have tax receipts issued for these. It is a stand-alone organization and is not connected in any way with the Rotary Foundation. More information is available on the district’s website below:
Drive Happiness has received funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada to complete the Driving Rural Access to Vaccines (DRAV) project. DRAV aims to increase access to vaccinations in rural Alberta with the help of community partners and citizens while focusing on transportation needs. To do this we need community partners who would either like to volunteer with Drive Happiness as a driver (email: volunteer@drivehappiness.ca), have connections in Northwestern Alberta to community groups, or are willing to speak to their own vaccination experience.
DRAV is currently hoping to work with Northwestern Alberta, specifically Grand Prairie County and upwards towards High Level. If this is something that interests you or to learn more please reach out to DRAV@drivehappiness.ca for more information or to volunteer@drivehappiness.ca if you would like to become a volunteer driver.
More information about becoming a volunteer driver: you choose when and where you drive, you receive a fuel reimbursement and you can feel good about helping your neighbours live healthy and fulfilling lives!
If you are interested please contact Jenna Bracken jenna@drivehappiness.ca at Drive Happiness directly.
RYLE (Rotary Youth Leadership Experience) is now open! RYLE is an opportunity for students to gain and strengthen leadership skills as well as network with like-minded students while having lots of fun. This year we will be returning to Camp Nakamun for an in-person 4 day RYLE camp April 28th-May 1st.
Rotary Clubs are invited to sponsor high school students; including members of Interact Clubs, to attend the 4 day camp. Applicants do not need to be involved with Rotary or Interact, as long as they are interested and willing to participate in the RYLE camp experience. We encourage every student to apply for this opportunity as we promote diversity and inclusion.
Please let us know how many students your club will be sponsoring by April 8th 2022. The sponsorship fee per student is $475. Please email us to let us know how many spots to save for your club!
Spring camps will be here before we know it so we are reaching out to provide you with registration and sponsorship information. We are back to hosting our Youth Camps in person this year!
