Pride Parade June 9- Rotary entry - join in the walk

The Edmonton Pride Festival theme is FULL SPECTRUM and will have its Pride Parade on Whyte Ave on Saturday, June 9, 2018 and Rotary will be there. The Rotary entry for our District is organized by the Edmonton Whyte Ave club, UofA Rotaract club and spearheaded by Old Scona Interact.

We will be marching to showcase Rotary representing the message of ALL People of Action. We would be so excited to see your faces there! The event runs on June 9th 10am-12:30pm. Bring your friends!

Considering Mental Health

On May 22nd Rotary Whyte Avenue member and psychiatric professional, Alfonso Ceccherini-Nelli MD, shared some facts and insights regarding the state of Mental Health in Canada.

Alfonso highlighted a couple of surprising statistics; in an average year, 1 in 5 Canadians will personally experience a mental health problem and 50% of Canadians will have had some form of mental illness by the time they are 40.

KIVA Microfinance Loans

One of Rotary International’s six area’s of focus is growing local economies by “strengthening local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.” The Rotary Club of Whyte Avenue is working on this area of focus by providing microloans through kiva.org.

Stan Bissell shared the story of Thúy, a female entrepreneur living in a remote rural community in Vietnam, who the club has supported with a microloan.
