Whyte Avenue Rotary Newsletter for the week of December 15th (Dec 13, 2020)

With monetary donations from members of our club, hat donations from the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS), and the generous donations of member Mel from her Shoppers Drug Mart location, we were able to put together 100 bountiful stockings for folks who are supported by the Skills Society.

Our club has been participating in Stocking Stuffing with Skills for five years. Each year, members of our club have enjoyed putting the stockings together with staff from Skills. Unfortunately this year, we were not able to meet as a group to put the stockings together. Our Community Service Chair, Kristin, and her partner Chris, formed a mini assembly line in their living room to stuff the ‘stockings’.

This year has been challenging for a multitude of reasons, but luckily COVID has not stopped our small-but-mighty club from spreading Christmas cheer.

Online Holiday Auction

Our Holiday Spirit Auction features some great items. Funds from this online auction will go towards supporting the Fresh Routes mobile grocery store. Fresh Routes is helping the Neighbour Centre offer affordable meals to those who need it most. The auction closes December 15th, so there is still time to bid on some great items and spread the word!

Join Whyte Avenue Rotary on Tuesday December 15th as they celebrate the holidays online with a festive drink-making demonstration and a game of "name that holiday tune." It will be a chance for fellowship and fun!

Last year Whyte Avenue Rotary sponsored a child in Colima, Mexico through the Project Amigo Canada Society. The $135 donation provided Miguel with the tools he needed to be successful, such as shoes, clothing and educational services. The sponsorship also helped him broaden his horizons and to connect with people beyond his own communities with the annual “Day at the Beach” trip and at Project Amigo’s volunteer-driven Christmas Fiesta. The club was pleased to renew Miguel's scholarship for another year.

Please help us spread the word about this new initiative from the Neighbour Centre. The Neighbour Centre is one of Whyte Avenue Rotary's community partners and we are thrilled to have been able to help support the Fresh Routes program.

What is The Rotary Foundation Cadre of Technical Advisors

Supporting Humanitarian Grants Program, the Cadre of Technical Advisors is a group of volunteer Rotarians who provide technical expertise and advice to Rotarians planning and carrying out Rotary grant projects around the world. Cadre members serve in countries other than their own, and they conduct on-site project visits for two to three days with written reports upon their return. The Rotary Foundation pays for a per diem and roundtrip air-fare.

The cadre is in need of Rotarians qualified in the following fields: Health, Education/Literacy, Small Business/Revolving Loans (micro credit), and Financial Auditing (chartered accountants and certified public accountants), and more. Individuals fluent in French, Spanish, Portuguese, and other language skills are welcome as well.
