Like all of you, I joined the New Orleans Rotary Club to do good in my community. I attend club meetings on a regular basis and participate in service projects whenever possible. I read up in the Rotary magazine about all of the great international projects, great Rotarians and the race to eradicate Polio for once and for all. Regularly, I receive requests by email and in my mailbox from the Rotary Foundation about additional donations that I can provide these worldwide projects. All great and worthwhile to be contributor, but how does this support our club? Our club receives support from the Rotary Foundation in several ways: - District Grants, back to the Club that support our local projects.
- The larger the district grants, the smaller the NORFI support and more funds become available for local projects.
I receive many annual fund requests from many local organizations and my wife and I have conversations about, what donations get priority every year. This year while writing the grant request for the district 2024-25 grants, I thought about a way to maximize the impact of our gifts. In the past I made a $1,000 Paul Harris level gift and I became Paul Harris Fellow. I realized that our club did not have a Paul Harris Wheel program. The “wheels” are a simple method to make a smaller donation towards a Paul Harris Fellow and to support the great RI Foundation projects. This is how its work: - A $100 wheel of 10 donations, will create a $1,000 donation.
- A $200 wheel of 5 donations, will create a $1,000 donation.
- A $250 wheel of 4 donations, will create a $1,000 donation.
Once a wheel is completed and all of the donations are collected, all the names are placed in a hat to draw one person and that person will receive the Paul Harris Fellow Award. It’s That simple.
