Kathy E. Johnson serves as the eighth President of the University of New Orleans, Louisiana’s only urban public research university. Johnson holds a PhD from Emory University, having earned prior degrees from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst before joining the faculty of Indiana University Indianapolis (IUI). Johnson's career spans more than three decades as a researcher in cognitive and developmental psychology and as an academic leader, including service as chair, dean, and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs. She has been involved in numerous national projects related to undergraduate student retention and success, faculty development, transfer student success, and urban universities as anchor institutions. She participates on the boards for the United Way of Southeast Louisiana, GNO, Inc., and the New Orleans Business Council and is a passionate fan of the Privateers – NOLA’s D1 athletics teams.
